Simon in Chesterfield, MO

Simon says…”I promise to be your best friend” Precious Simon is an owner release who was reluctantly turned over to our care due to severe allergies. He started new prescription food and the type/dosage of meds were changed. Keeping a strict diet, no table foods!, he has regained his health and coat. Goodbye to bacteria and yeast infections!

Simon is a healthy, active, cuddly 16 pound 4-year old-Ruby gentleman born 10/26/20. When he came to Cavalier Rescue USA he had the cutest blonde “mohawk”, and now that his coat has filled out he has grown mutton chops! A very handsome gentleman indeed! He knows sit, down, come to his name and walks on leash (leash attached to harness not collar) although working on pulling. He gets excited when the leash comes out. Car rides are a favorite and he sits in an elevated car seat with a secure harness attached.

His meds have been reduced over the past several months (Atopica and Apoquel). The meds are simply added to his food (Purina Pro Plan vet diet..EL) in morning only. Cost per month for prescription food, meds and supplement plus monthly preventatives (best price found for meds was Sam’s Club and one supplement and food from Chewy) is approximately $165.00. The supplement is Redonyl Ultra.

He is monitored by his foster mom every morning for clear ears, areas between his toes and labial folds (the skin folds around the mouth) health. We keep the hair on the inside trimmed and use medicated ear flush once a week for maintenance. He has not had any further infections since the initial infections were clear.

Simon learned the routines of the foster family quickly and joins in with zest! The family consists of: three other Cavalier foster buddies, four kitties, middle school children and adults. If his foster mom leaves the room he is right there following her! He would absolutely love to sleep in the big bed with his forever family. He eagerly jumps on laps to be close to family members or visitors.

Feeding routine consists of breakfast about 6:30 am with meds in food and 5 pm or 6 pm dinner. He eats separately from the other pups. About a cup of water is added to his 1/2 cup prescription dry food. He is occasionally given Charlie Bear Treats from Trader Joe’s or green beans. Due to Simon’s allergies, ANY food with chicken is a definite NO as well as table food!

Potty manners have been excellent with opportunities to go outside first thing in morning and before bed with several opportunities during the day.

Simon likes to explore in the yard area and run with the other 4-year-old pup in the family. They are buddies keeping an eye out for birds! Once birds are sighted, they run, but, of course, they never catch. He will run out the door if given a brief opportunity so working on “stay” before door opens. Thus a secure physically fenced is optimal for safety. Another friendly pup would also be ideal since he is always cuddled up to another pup or family member. He does not like to be left alone when family leaves unless another pup is also with him.

Simon will be sorely missed by his foster family but another family will have the perfect addition to complete their familypastedGraphic.png  Are you the family?  If so, please fill out our online application, if you haven’t already done so and then contact Sarah Noebles at cavalierrescuesarah@gmail.com to let her know of your interest.
