Pebbles in Charlotte, NC
Pebbles is a sweet, friendly 9-year-old female tri-color who is a wonderful and loving companion. She was placed in rescue after her previous owner passed away and the remaining family member didn’t have sufficient time to care for her.
Pebbles would be great as an only “child” or as part of a “pack”. She fit in well with her foster family’s three Cavaliers and even enjoys playing with the family’s puppy. Pebbles is active and playful for her age!
Pebbles is very excited to greet her people when they arrive home and loves to sit on their laps or near them and snuggle. She displays basic obedience skills such as “sit” and “come” and happily sleeps through the night in a crate. Also, she walks well on a loose leash and shows calm interest in folks and dogs who pass by. However, Pebbles is happy to confidently meet people if they are interested in getting to know her.
Apparently, Pebbles in the past has shown signs —like most Cavaliers— of dashing out the door, but she now understands the “wait” command and appears to be more controlled. Pebbles is a good traveler and does well in cars and unfamiliar surroundings.
Pebbles has a heart murmur (mitral valve disease) and has seen a cardiologist while in our care. She has been started on cardio meds and was cleared to have a much-needed dental. She ended up needing all of her teeth extracted. She’s healing well from the dental and can eat soaked kibble just fine. She will need to see a cardiologist in six months for a follow-up exam (and periodically thereafter) and adjustments of heart medications as needed.
Her foster family has been working with Pebbles to help her with some of her unique behavioral needs, (which they actually find endearing). There are some signs of anxiety, seen in the event of nighttime thunderstorms, and she loves to lick people’s arms and legs as a bit of a nervous habit. She is very food oriented and always wants to be the first dog in line for a treat, sometimes breaking a “sit” to show her excitement. She also likes to sit on dining room/kitchen chairs during her people’s meals, which the foster family has discouraged. Finally, most of her life has involved her relieving herself during walks, but she’s slowly becoming more comfortable with backyard life.
Pebbles would do best with a family that has someone home much of the time with a fenced yard (physical, not electric or virtual). Respectful, older children with dog experience in the house to be her companion would be a plus. She has not been tested around cats. A family that has time to devote to enjoying life with Pebbles would be a wonderful match.
