Nick in Oxnard, CA

Meet Nick! True Love comes with a wagging tail. Nick is a gentle and sweet boy who came to rescue from a commercial breeder release. He is thriving in a home environment.  Nick is ready to find a fur-ever family to call his own that will continue his socialization and good dog behavior with positive reinforcement.

Nick is a healthy youngster. We don’t know his birthdate, but vet says he is between 2-3 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on core vaccinations, current with flea preventative and microchipped. No murmur was detected on auscultation at his exam and his knees and hips are good. He received treatment for a mild ear infection and medication for parasites while in foster care.

Nick is doing very well with his house training. He goes to the door to let you know that he would like to go out. He is crate trained and will sometimes go in for a nap but usually sleeps quietly through the night with his foster sister in one of the dog beds. Nick draws a lot of confidence and security from his canine foster sisters. He enjoys going for several walks every day, exploring the neighborhood and socializing with other small dogs. He is shy and will back away when someone approaches wanting to pet him but is making improvements as he becomes more comfortable with people.

Nick is sensitive to loud sounds. They trigger his anxiety and fearfulness. He has a high prey drive. A home without small children would be best. Their energy would be overwhelming for him as he adjusts one last time. He can be shy and skittish with loud noises, raised voices and sudden movements. A home that offers a balance of structure, engagement and cuddle time will help Nick feel safe and confident.

Nick’s ideal home will have one or more playful friendly canine companions. A home with other dogs will be a major plus for his confidence. He responds with affection to a soft happy tone of voice and praise. He is very good and quiet in the house and loves mealtimes!

Nick is ready to find his ideal human; someone who will be kind and patient with him. This will help build his confidence so he can blossom into the wonderful companion he was born to be. Families within a comfortable driving distance of Oxnard are preferred to facilitate introductory visits.
