Daisy in Macomb, MI
Fresh-as-a-Daisy! Meet this little bundle of joy and cuteness, Daisy, a 2-year-old Ruby female Cavalier. Daisy has had a bumpy journey in life, but she is happy to be getting the attention she so deserves. Daisy started life as a breeder momma dog then went to live with a good Samaritan before coming into rescue.

When she arrived at her foster home, Daisy was initially reactionary when picked up, sometimes cowering or yelping. Her foster family has spent a lot of time reassuring Daisy that she is in a safe place, working to build up her trust. Now Daisy looks forward to walks in the neighborhood and is testing her skills at meeting new people (she’s initially a little shy). Once she knows people, she warms up and gets excited to say hi to her people when they return home. To continue on this path, it is important that Daisy be in a calm environment at her forever home. She responds well to gentle correcting. A harsh scolding will likely send Daisy cowering and set her back emotionally.

Daisy is still mastering walking on a leash and enjoys the opportunity to get outdoors. She also likes running off leash and exploring the outdoors in the fenced yard. She easily plays with the other cavvies in her foster home, sharing toys. She can also keep herself occupied playing alone with her toys. This may be the first time Daisy has been introduced to toys and been encouraged to play and she likes both!!

During the day, Daisy hangs out in the dog bed or on the couch by her foster mom, who works from home. This is especially important because Daisy is still working on her potty-training. Her foster mom lets her out to go potty every two hours and sometimes Daisy will still have an accident. For this reason, she wears a doggie diaper in the home. She sleeps through the night without any accidents. Keep in mind, Daisy likely spent her first two years in a cage, without benefit of any house training. So, learning house rules is a new thing for her.

She is growing into a typical Cavalier, always wanting to keep her people in sight and snuggling into their laps in the evening. This suits her calm and gentle demeanor nicely. Like most Cavaliers, her favorite time of day is mealtime, when she eagerly barks to encourage the people to move faster!
Daisy has been to the vet recently and is up to date on all vaccines. She has been spayed and microchipped. She came into rescue with an infection in both ears. This is now being managed by a monthly dose of ear drops which her new family will need to continue (she tolerates it very well).

This little sweetheart would do best in a home with another small, calm dog to help show her the ropes of life as a pet. Daisy may also benefit from some basic obedience classes to help boost her confidence and the connection to her new family. Most importantly, Daisy needs a calm home with consistency and someone home during the day who has lots of love and patience to help with her potty training.
