Buster in Okemos, MI
Bright-Eyed, Buster says Thank you!
Thank you to all supporters, friends, and family of Cavalier Rescue USA. You have provided Buster with the gift of sight! And he is so happy, and now Buster is ready to be adopted!

Buster is a 23.5 lb, dapper Blenheim male. The vet thinks he is about 9 or 10 years young, although his owner said he was 6. Buster came to rescue from an owner who was experiencing declining health and was no longer able to care for Buster. At his initial vet visit after arriving in rescue, we learned that Buster was nearly blind in both eyes due to severe cataracts. In May, Buster had the cataracts removed in both eyes, immediately relieving the discomfort he was experiencing in one eye. His sight has been restored, and Buster finds himself in a whole new, colorful, exciting world!

Having sight restored has boosted his demeanor greatly. Buster’s confidence has increased and he is much less anxious. At his follow-up visit to the ophthalmologist, Buster freely gave tons of thank you kisses to his doctor and the care staff. This new life philosophy of “free kisses for everyone!” has extended to his foster family and everyone he meets at Home Depot, the park, and other outings.

Buster amplifies all the typical Cavalier traits! There is more love packed into his 24lb frame than he can give in one day. He has a wonderful, happy disposition. He is a quiet, loving soul, never barking inside or outside the home. Buster gets along well with the other Cavaliers in his foster home — they helped nudge him around the house when he had difficulty seeing.

Buster loves his daily walks and is the first one to the door to get his harness on. This is no easy feat, as Buster wiggles with joy and unloads tons of kisses whilst gearing up for a walk. He is great on a leash and responds well to praise along the way. Buster also really loves riding in a car, even if it is just around the block. He is reluctant to leave the car once the ride is complete. Buster also enjoys the outdoors, but prefers to stick close to his foster family and the other Cavaliers in his foster home. Buster’s favorite place is being next to his people. How else can he unload all his free kisses?!

Buster is housebroken, having had no accidents inside his foster family’s home. He uses a bell by the back door to signal his need to go outside. Buster does not require a fenced yard, only a family that will monitor him when he is outside. He does not need to be crated when his family leaves the home. He is content to take a nap alongside his foster siblings when the people are gone.

Buster is doing extremely well after his cataract surgery. One eye still looks cloudy, but the vet is hoping that will clear up in the next month. Buster is on a scheduled regime of eye drops (three different drops, twice a day) and visits to his Veterinarian Ophthalmologist in Williamston, Michigan. He will need a six-month and 12-month follow-up visit to his eye doctor (in November and May 2027). And Buster may need to continue one of the eye drop treatments for his lifetime (cost is about $55 for a three-month supply). He is very good about getting his eye drops. Why? Well, it’s another opportunity to give kisses.

Buster would do well in a family where someone is home most of the time. He would enjoy the companionship and support of a small canine sibling. His fur-ever family will need to administer eye drops and should take him on regular walks to help Buster with his weight management. He would benefit from dropping another few pounds.
Buster is neutered, microchipped, and UTD on his shots. No heart issues were detected.

If you are looking for a loving companion that will provide endless love and attention, then Buster is right for you! He has been an extreme gem-of-a-gentleman while in foster care and with his prior owner. He’s a really special and immensely thankful dog.
