Wally in New Hope, PA

Wally, aka “The Walmeister,” is a six-year-old, adorable tricolor firecracker!

Wally will love you if understand his three priorities: playing fetch, being near his person (ideally sleeping in the big bed) and, of course, food.

This boy is nuts for his tennis balls, and he enjoys playing after breakfast and dinner with naps in between. He plays indoors and outside.

Most times, his foster Mom has to hide the ball to convey that play time has ended.

Wally came into rescue due to a diabetes diagnosis, but this very active dog has responded well to his 12-hour meal/insulin schedule. Other than a blood-sugar check every few months, Wally requires no special veterinary care beyond normal checkups. He will require insulin for the rest of his life.

Wally currently takes 3.5 units of U-40 insulin every 12 hours. His insulin and syringes are about $50 per month. He is totally oblivious to his shot which is administered into a pinch of his neck scruff while he is eating.

Wally is a taller boy weighing in at 22 pounds.

Wally gets along well with his Cavalier foster siblings, but also would be happy as an only dog as long as he has attention from his human. He has something of a prey drive, and will occasionally chase the resident cat as well as give a hearty bark at animals on the television.

Wally has not been exposed to children. Older children that would play fetch with him would likely be something he’d enjoy. He needs a fenced yard for his outdoor play time.

Wally walks well on a leash. He can be reactive to certain dogs, but can be redirected with a small training treat. He had a few potty accidents in his foster home, but is housebroken and paws at the door to indicate he needs to go out.

Wally is very fond of wet weather.

Wally has tolerated baths in his foster home and is learning to accept some brushing. He previously sported a puppy cut and is used to groomer visits, though his foster parents have allowed his fur to grow out.
