Tyrus in Moscow, Idaho

Tyrus “Ty” is a 7.5-year-old Blenheim cuddle-bug Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He came into rescue after being released from a breeder. Ty has adapted quickly to his new life since coming into foster care. He is a typical Cavalier who wants to be near all his humans, or better yet on any lap available.

Ty loves being outside and exploring the foster family’s fenced yard. He is happy to be his foster sister’s wingman patrolling the fence for squirrels, peering through the fence at the neighbor’s cat, and enthusiastically greeting the mail person every afternoon. But Ty’s very most favorite thing on the planet is chasing butterflies. His antics running and jumping in pursuit are adorable. He enjoys being with his foster family’s Cavalier and gains confidence with her, but he does not seem to require another dog to be happy.

While outside Ty has lots of energy, inside he is a Cavalier couch potato. He will follow his foster family around the house to keep them company. But as soon as they sit down, he loves to cuddle. Ty can’t quite decide if he likes scratches around his ears, or under the chin, but he is happy to spend serious time every day exploring the topic. Personal space is at a premium when he’s around!

Ty is crate trained and can spend time in the crate during the day if you leave the house. He sleeps all night in the kennel but would like you to know he would love to sleep in a bed if invited. Ty’s foster Dad has napped with him and Ty likes to climb up to the top of the pillow, wrap himself around your head, and snore in your ear. Ty does great riding in his crate in the car.

Coming into foster care, Ty required extensive medical care. He was neutered, had a hernia repaired, a lump removed from his back, as well as 22 teeth removed. Recovery is going well and he would be more active if allowed. He weighs 18 lbs and is up to date on vaccines. Ty was diagnosed with a Grade 3 heart murmur but is not on any heart medications at this time. As part of caring for Ty, his adopter will need to continue regular cardiac monitoring and any recommended care.

While in foster care, Ty met extended family and friends of the foster family, interacted with kids of various ages, and had exposure to big and little dogs. Ty is very easy going most of the time, but did show some reactivity to big, boisterous dogs approaching him so caution should be used in future exposures. Otherwise, Ty seems very adaptable to new situations and seems happy to be included in everything.
