Max in Charlotte, NC
Meet Max!

Max is an affectionate five-year-old Black and Tan boy with a very sweet personality. He was placed in rescue by his previous owner who was moving, and felt Max would be better off with a new family better suited for his needs.
Max is active and loves to cuddle with his family.

Max can take a while to warm up and trust new people and environments. As he gets used to people and situations, Max’s personality opens up.
At first, Max was very uncertain about his foster Mom and especially his foster Dad, but after a few weeks he began to feel comfortable with them.

Max is making progress learning basic obedience skills such as sit, wait and come, but his training has been relatively slow due to his timidity.
He’s a healthy guy and up to date on his vaccines. Max has no sign of a heart murmur.
Recently he had a long overdue dental cleaning and he lost several teeth. Max marked a few times when he first arrived in foster care, but bellybands and increasing familiarity with his new surroundings helped fix that.

Typically well-behaved, Max has no issues with separation. Like most Cavaliers, however, Max is excited to see his people when they return home.
He is very adept at using his eyes and face to give you a look that melts your heart.

Max does react by barking to noises that surprise him such as doorbells, dogs barking or appliance/television noises. He loves to dash over people, furniture and other dogs to get to the windows and bark at passersby.
He’s better behaved on walks, but still is timid. He’s a very good walker once he gets comfortable with his surroundings.
Max has met a few children, and he shows the same wariness as he shows for adults.

Max is playful, but not toy oriented. He gets along well with the foster family’s three Cavaliers and frequently plays/wrestles with them. Larger dogs may intimidate him.
Max loves to run laps outside. He’s shown some limited interest in playing fetch, but that might be a possibility with some training.

Max needs a family that will be patient with his personality and be willing to spend time building trust and confidence.
Max would do best with a family of experienced dog owners, with someone home much of the time and a decent-sized fenced yard (physical, not electric or virtual) where he can run and play.

Max needs to be in a home with another playful small dog, preferably a Cavalier. Respectful, older children as playmates would be a plus.
