Gus in Franklin, PA

Meet Gus — An Old Soul with a Young Heart!

At 9 years young (born 1/1/2017), Gus is proof that age is just a number. This sweet boy came into foster care after a change in circumstances with his family, and he quickly settled into his new life. He absolutely adores the companionship of his foster pup sibling and his kid foster siblings and has made himself right at home.

Gus is a handsome Ruby boy who knows what he likes. He is the first one at the door when it’s time for a walk and the first one on the couch when it’s time for cuddles.

He loves knowing where his foster family is and will happily keep tabs on everyone. But once the household settles down, you’ll find Gus curled up in his favorite corner of the couch, snoozing away like the cozy little gentleman he is.

Gus has been around cats, toddlers, and older children and loves them all. He enjoys being part of the family but also appreciates having some quiet time to himself.

Gus is a smart boy who knows his name and several simple commands. He is fully house trained and does wonderfully doing his business on leash during his walks. If you’re able to give him several walks a day, Gus will happily be your new best friend and walking buddy. He is very interested in other dogs and people and will happily wag his tail and sniff hello whenever he gets the chance. And in true Cavalier fashion, Gus is a bed sleeper. He’ll happily sleep through the night beside his people.

Gus weighs approximately 23 pounds, which his veterinarian says is a healthy, perfect weight for him. Gus came into care with a pretty serious ear infection and appears to be prone to ear infections. Thankfully, with weekly ear cleanings, his ears have been staying nice and clean. His new home will need to monitor his ears and ensure they are clean. He is now up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and receiving monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Gus has some skin allergies, but with his two medicated treatments — a mousse and shampoo — he is much more comfortable and his itching is reduced.

Gus has been diagnosed with a Grade 4 heart murmur. He had an ultrasound and cardiology consultation and is currently prescribed daily heart medication. His medical needs will need to be continued and monitored by his forever family.

Most importantly, Gus is looking for a family who will love him for all the wonderful things that make him Gus. He would thrive in a home with other dogs, especially since he is accustomed to living with other Cavaliers and clearly enjoys canine companionship. He would also enjoy having children in his forever family, preferably school-age or older.

Gus may be an older gentleman, but his heart is still young, his tail still wags, and he has so much love left to give. All this sweet boy needs now is someone to say, “You’re home, Gus.” Could you be his forever family? If so, please make sure you have an updated application on file and email us at cavalierrescueusapa@gmail.com and ask to be considered as Gus’s forever family.
