Here is Howie with his new family…

Howie is just about the sweetest Cavalier you will ever meet. He was born around 4-1-2017 which makes him 9-years-old. He came to Cavalier Rescue USA after a long life of being a breeding dog. Howie is such a gentle soul with an abundance of love that he’s ready to share with everyone two and four legged. He is very easy going and curious and wants nothing more than to be loved and near his people. He loves all of the pups at his foster and follows his foster mom everywhere she goes making sure he doesn’t miss out on a pat on the head or a kiss on the muzzle or a treat.

Howie loves his blanket he received from the rescue volunteer who picked him up from the breeder and likes to carry it to his resting spots and snuggle with it in his bed at night. He has been very quickly learning how to be a loving pet by watching the other dogs in the house where he has proved to be very intelligent. He learned how to navigate stairs within a few days and how to use the doggie door very early by following the other pups around. He absolutely loves running around the fully fenced backyard and watching the bunnies run around on the other side of the fence. He thrives in a peaceful home where he can feel safe and loved.

Howie hasn’t been tested with children but his easy- going personality would best be suited with older children who are not rambunctious as he does follow his people around closely. His ideal home would be with someone home most of the time and who has another easy- going dog he can continue to learn from and keep company with. He will need a fully fenced backyard where he can explore and watch all the new things he hasn’t experienced before. He would be so happy with a family who will provide plenty of love, companionship and provide him with a  comfortable place to nap with his blanket.

Since being in foster care, Howie has been neutered, microchipped and had a dental where he only lost 4 teeth. He’s had all of his vaccinations and is up to date on his heartworm/flea/tick preventatives. He has a grade 3 heart murmur and has started taking Pimobendan and Enalapril which will need to continue daily for the rest of his life. He has some arthritis in his back knees that require a low dose of gabapentin daily and he has dry eye in the left eye that requires eye drops twice a day. He currently weighs 18lbs but is working on gaining weight and would be best at 23 lbs. 

He is doing well with house training and has not had any accidents in his foster home. He does wear a belly band when left unattended for peace of mind. He hasn’t started leash training yet but should be easy to train since he only wants to be near his people.  

Howie has just been adopted to a loving family and so we aren’t taking applications for him.
