Stevie in Cinnaminson, NJ

Meet Stevie! He is a sweet 7-year-old Blenheim boy born 5/1/19 who came into rescue when his previous owner could no longer manage his care. He is a happy, loving, sweet boy and gets along well with other people and dogs. He has done well meeting a neighborhood cat, but has limited exposure to children.

Neutered and up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives, Stevie was microchipped and received a dental while in rescue care. He did lose 26 teeth, but is much happier now that he’s not in any pain. He has Addison’s disease, which requires daily medication and a monthly injection, which his new owner can learn to administer, otherwise it requires a quick trip to the vet office. The monthly cost for his medication runs around $35, and he will need periodic bloodwork done every 3-4 months to monitor his levels. More frequent checks or immediate vet visits are required if there is a flare-up or he shows significant signs of stress, illness or weakness.

Given his medical condition, he will need a stable schedule and a low stress environment. Stevie does get quite animated around food time, and he can be vocal and bark when it’s time to be fed or when he hears other neighborhood dogs barking or loud noises, but he responds well to commands and can calm quickly. He is currently in a home with another resident cavalier and has enjoyed his company, but Stevie is fed separately, due to his enthusiasm for meal time. Stevie does have a special slow feeder bowl to slow him down while eating.

Weighing 24 lbs, Stevie is crate trained and either sleeps in in his open crate at night or on the bed. He likes to go on walks and is great on the leash, and has quickly learned his fenced yard while in foster care, but enjoys someone outside and supervising him when in the yard. He has not yet learned to alert to go outside, so will need a regular potty schedule while he learns his new house.

While not a typical velcro Cavalier, he always wants to be where his people are, so having someone home during the day is ideal. He would do best in a quiet adult-only home, as young children or too much activity won’t be good for his stress levels. Stevie is friendly with other dogs, but would also be fine as an only dog.
