Ace in High Point, NC
If you’re in the market for a velcro dog who will also respect your personal bubble, look no further than Ace! 3-year-old Ace, born 3/13/23, is a hefty tricolor boy currently weighing in at 28 lbs. While most Cavaliers tend to be little shadows, Ace takes this responsibility very literally; no matter how short the trip to the other room, he’ll be close behind. However, he’s more of an Edward-Cullen-in-New-Moon type gentleman – he’s quietly observing and checking in on you, but will keep a respectful distance unless invited to come closer.

Ace loves a good ear rub, tummy rub, and a good game of fetch with a squeaky toy. During down time, he prefers to lay on the couch close by, where he can keep an eye on the show you’re watching and boof at any suspicious characters on the screen to keep you safe. Despite being overweight, Ace loves a good long walk and has great walk behavior on the leash. He’s a perfect car-panion and is just happy to be with you. While not much of a barker, he occasionally has some excited barks he can’t contain when he’s excited to go outside or play with you. Ace quickly crate trained himself after coming to us, and will choose to snooze in there during the day and will go in very politely if asked. Rather than a dog bed or crate, Ace chooses to sleep under the bed, where he can easily hear and see if any humans leave their bed.

Ace comes to us from a home with 8 other Cavaliers who were free fed, and is currently working on his figure to get to his ideal weight (about 24 lbs). Ace is the goodest of boys and never tries to steal any human food and has learned well to eat from a dog bowl at a set meal time. This lovebug is perfectly potty trained. He prefers to have an emotional support chew toy that he can carry from room to room when he’s excited or happy. While he gets along great with other dogs, his true love is people. He does great with kids. He is a determined door-scratcher if he knows you’re behind it without him, and will therefore need a human companion that is as obsessed with his company as he is with yours. If given the chance, he does love to grab the end of a roll of toilet paper and pull it somewhere safe to try to eat it, so we do recommend you keep your bathroom doors closed until he’s fully trained out of this behavior.

Ace’s beautiful Cavalier ears tend to get a bit irritated, and will need a simple ear rinse used weekly. Ace does have slight luxating patella in both of his rear legs, but it currently causes him no pain or issues. He is up-to-date on tick, flea, and heartworm prevention, as well as all of his vaccines, and is microchipped. Ace hasn’t ever been tested around cats, but comes from a big home of canine companions and will need a home with at least one other like-sized doggy friend. He will also require a fenced-in yard for potty breaks and for outdoor exploration time, because those squirrels aren’t going to sniff out themselves. Make sure you’re committed to walking with him – this big hunk of love needs daily exercise to continue his weight loss journey, which is critical for his luxating patellas and overall wellbeing.

Ace’s forever home will be patient and understand that he may need a little bit of time to adjust to his new home – after all, he lived in the same home his whole life up until recently, and that’s a big change for anyone! Being the king he is, he may need you to encourage him to eat by
feeding him by hand the first few days or sitting by him while he eats. With a little love and time, you too can unlock his full personality.
