Arlo in Yakima, WA

Hi, I’m Arlo! I am a fun, playful, loving, and energetic Cavapoo, and I’m 4 (almost 5) years old! I’m told I am a handsome but bigger boned boy and weigh in at 34 pounds, which is an ideal weight for my stature. I am a friendly guy and get compliments wherever I go, charming everyone with my friendly personality, my big brown eyes, and my amazing long eyelashes! I came into rescue after my elderly owner could no longer give me the vet care and exercise I need. I’m now looking for a very special furever home that will understand my quirks and will love me for the fabulous dog I am.

A bit about me: I have a big personality! My foster family says I make them laugh all the time because I’m such a cute and goofy boy. I’m always up for an adventure, a walk, or car ride. My absolute favorite thing to do is to go outside and play fetch with my ball! I do like downtime and enjoy hanging out in the backyard while keeping myself company, all with no barking, like a good neighbor! On the couch I like to cuddle and watch TV or look out a big picture window to keep tabs on the neighborhood.

I am smart and I learn quickly (like snatching a piece of popcorn flying thru the air), and I always want to please my people! I have very good manners at mealtime, but I find unattended tissues or rolls of toilet paper to be irresistible. I am good when left at home alone housed in my crate for short periods of time, but I got to be honest, the Cavalier in me needs to be around my hoomans! It would be oh so wonderful if my new person worked from home as that would make me feel safe and comfortable. I am a great companion, will follow you wherever you go, give you love and snuggles, and rest my head in a lap whenever a lap appears. After a busy day doing all the doggy things, I eagerly head to my covered crate, put myself to bed and sleep all night without a peep.

I really am a great dog, and I am ready to find my perfect match! I do have some special requirements though. My foster family says I come with a mini manual, but I like to think of myself as a dog that knows exactly who I am! The vet says I’m in good health, have no detectable heart issues, and my pearly whites are in good condition. But I do have long-standing allergy issues that have caused ear infections, skin issues, and general itchiness and discomfort. And so I require some extra care that my new family needs to be diligent about to keep me feeling my best.

When I got to my foster home, I didn’t feel great and was a little cranky. You see, I had skin issues like infections and dry seborrhea, and ear infections, all related to my allergies. My ears are all cleared up, and my coat and skin are improving and are looking pretty darned marvelous! I’m still on one medication for my skin but that’s being tapered off. I’ve also been getting baths with medicated shampoo every 2-3 days, but eventually I will require only a weekly sudsing up (I love my at home spa days) to keep my skin healthy and smelling great! I’ll need to stay on the medication Apoquel and keep my ears clean. I’m also on a special food from the vet, but in time hopefully my new family can transition me to a different food.

I would do best being the only dog at home as I look good in the limelight and may not want to share it with another dog. I have a foster dog sibling and have learned to tolerate him and mostly mind my manners. But this did take some time and a watchful eye while I got to know him and understand how to interact. You see, I’ve always been an only dog and have some bad experiences with dogs in my past. I’m curious about my two foster cat siblings and don’t go chasing them, so a cat in my new home will likely put up with me.

Something important to know about me, I need a good amount of exercise since I have a lot of energy and need an outlet! We play fetch a lot in the yard and go on long walks. Without this outlet, I get restless. So I’m not a couch potato, but I do love the couch for cuddles!

I also need a home with just grownups since I’m a bit greedy with my toys and have shown some guarding behaviors and may growl in certain situations. The good news is that it isn’t consistent and with proper training and management, my foster family believes I can continue improving. At the end of the day, I am a sweet and loving boy looking for someone who understands me and is willing to embrace my quirks. In return you will get me, a really great dog, loyal companion, great adventure buddy, and cuddle giver who will be your very best furever friend.

Note from foster family: Arlo is smart, sweet, curious and attentive, follows commands well, and is funny! He has a ton of attention and love to give. If you are ready to give him a chance and are active minded and patient, you will get a loyal and incredibly entertaining companion for life! He needs a home that is calm and predictable, and owners that will continue to provide the necessary treatments and medications to keep his allergies controlled and skin in tip-top shape.
