Bella in Seattle, WA
Bella is a spirted and happy 10-year-old tricolor Cavalier, and she’s looking for a special person to call her own. Nothing makes this sweet girl happier than giving and receiving love. Her displays of affection are quite endearing, though reserved for her special people. When you get close, she’ll show her love with kisses or a soft touch with her nose. And when you get on the floor at her level, plan on having your face licked as she showers you with kisses.
Bella’s a smart girl and very observant. She easily picks up on what she should or shouldn’t do and wants to please. She welcomes treats but has definite preferences—little treats are best after all, and apple slices are fun to crunch on. If you take Bella for a walk, expect a leisurely pace so that she can stop and smell all the interesting scents. Perhaps a more accurate description of her leashed excursions are “strolls.” She only pulls or puts the brakes on when she finds something especially interesting to sniff.
As is true with most Cavaliers, Bella would like to sleep in the big bed with you. While she is used to sleeping in a crate or in a cozy dog bed on the floor, she hopes to find someone who doesn’t mind her snoring so she can cuddle up at night. In true Cavalier style, she’ll follow you around the house as you go about your day; however, she’s also content to take a nap on the couch by herself.
Bella’s lively spirit comes through with her ways of communicating. Her foster dad says Bella makes different noises as if she’s “talking,” and she can be a chatty girl! She gets talkative and barks when she sees you getting ready to leave, for the first few minutes of car rides, and when the car stops, all seemingly situations when she’s unsure about what’s happening and gets a little anxious. She also gets chatty while on walks as she’s experiencing new sights and smells. She does not bark at noises, so for the most part, she’s quiet indoors.
Bella’s came into rescue due to her anxiety and going potty inside. However, Bella doesn’t seem particularly anxious in her foster home, except in the situations mentioned above. Her previous home was also a lot busier with an in-home daycare, and her owner found Bella to be sensitive to changes in the home environment.
Bella has a history of recurrent urinary tract infections, including two this year. Our vets determined she was a good candidate for a vulvoplasty to remove excess skin folds and help prevent future infections. Bella had her surgery and is recovering well. She weighs 28 lbs and could afford to lose a couple of pounds. She has a grade 2 heart murmur but is otherwise healthy.
The ideal home for Bella has day-to-day stability and a laid-back atmosphere. She’d do best with another gentle dog of similar size and a family where someone is with her most of the time. We also get the sense she’d thrive in a home where the dogs don’t outnumber the humans. Since she enjoys her strolls, she needs someone who will take her on leisurely daily walks. She’s used to leashed potty breaks throughout the day but would do well with a fenced yard too.
