Blackjack and Bandit in Evergreen, CO

Be prepared to fall head over heels for Blackjack (the tricolor) and Bandit (the blenheim), a sweet and loving bonded pair, with happy tails that wag at the speed of light! These warm-hearted and chill boys were born on January 11, 2017, are 9-years-young and are impressively frisky and full of life.

They were surrendered due to their owner’s health issues and settled right away into their foster home. These gentle boys are nothing but relaxed, comfortable, and not shy about handing out kisses. “Cool as cucumbers” should be their motto.

They think the resident Cavalier buddies are terrific, and everyone enjoys playing musical beds. They’ve kindly greeted neighborhood dogs and humans on their walks. Kids and cats remain a mystery, but so far nothing fazes them.

Both boys are excellent supervisors. Blackjack will often follow your every move to make sure you are doing everything right. Bandit is content to find a quiet spot not too far from the action. Belly rubs are frequently in demand from Bandit and Blackjack is content watching his foster human or sunning himself on the deck.

While in foster care, the pups had intake exams and Blackjack had a dental done. Both have some arthritis and take daily joint supplements ($40/month). Blackjack takes a pain medication, also $40/month. Each boy has luxating patellas with each having one that is a grade 3 out of 4. The veterinarian said surgery is not warranted. Blackjack does just fine on carpeted stairs, but a long flight of wooden stairs would not be ok. Bandit has a grade 1 heart murmur (no medication currently needed). No heart murmur was detected for Blackjack. Both are up to date on all vaccinations and had negative heartworm tests. Blackjack had a dental with three extractions.

Bandit and Blackjack are “full-figured” gents and have been on a nutritious weight reduction plan since arriving in foster care. Bandit weighs 29 pounds and Blackjack is 34 pounds. Each will need to continue their weight loss journey to live their healthiest lives.

They are terrific leash walkers and really zoom along at a brisk pace – especially when it’s cool outside. Shorter walks are best when the temperature rises.
