Brody in Eagle, ID

Brody is a five-year-old Cavalier with a wonderfully sweet disposition and a gentle, easygoing personality. He is a true gentle giant: he’s remarkably calm, very low energy, and one of the easiest dogs to have around. Brody rarely makes a sound, and his favorite place in the world is probably right beside his person, preferably in a lap getting as many cuddles as possible.

Brody is fully housetrained and sleeps quietly in his crate at night. He is also perfectly content in his crate during the day and doesn’t complain when he is there. He loves being with his people and will happily follow them around, but he doesn’t demand attention or make a fuss when he is settled in his crate.

Brody spent most of his life living with canine companions, so he is very comfortable and happy having other dogs around. In fact, we think he may prefer a home with another dog or dogs. He is also friendly with cats and kids.

Brody appears to have lost much, if not all, of his hearing. He does not respond when his name is called, so his new family will need to learn to communicate with him using hand signals, touch, and visual cues. He also has a bit of a free spirit when it comes to coming when called, since he doesn’t really come over just because you call him unless he has decided that he wants to! For that reason, he should always be safely on leash or in a securely fenced area. This is especially important around doors and whenever getting in or out of the car.

Brody can be a little hard to motivate, which is part of what makes him so funny. He doesn’t seem particularly interested in walking on grass. You can encourage him all you want, but sometimes Brody’s response is simply to sit down, look at you, and politely decline your suggestion. He enjoys short daily walks, but he is not a high-energy hiking buddy. He is much more of a homebody who enjoys taking things at his own pace.

And then there is Brody’s couch routine. He is a big boy and watching him launch himself onto the couch is surprisingly entertaining. He may be a gentle giant, but he is still a Cavalier who knows exactly where he wants to be, and that is usually right up on the couch with his people! His foster family has never heard him bark while awake (although he does occasionally bark in his dreams), but you will hear him in another way. This sweet boy snores, and not just a dainty little Cavalier snuffle, Brody can SNORE! It is one of his more endearing quirks.

He does best when he has someone around and would thrive in a home where he can spend lots of time with his people. Although he is well behaved when left alone, he should not be left by himself for long periods of time. He doesn’t need a busy or particularly active household; he simply wants to be near his people, have a cozy place to nap, enjoy a little walk, and get plenty of lap time.

Brody weighs 28 pounds, has been neutered and is now up to date on his vaccinations. He has a sensitive tummy, so his family will need to be mindful about what he eats and provide him with food that agrees with him.

Brody is a gentle, quiet, low-key boy who is incredibly easy to have around. He is affectionate without being demanding, friendly with everyone he meets, and always ready for a good cuddle. If you are looking for a devoted companion who would be perfectly happy spending his days by your side, and occasionally taking over your couch, Brody just might be your perfect match.
