Bucky in Woodland Hills, CA
Meet Bucky: A Sweet, Devoted Boy Looking for an Experienced Home.
The dog you see the vast majority of the time is sweet, loving, playful, and incredibly devoted to his people. Bucky is well-trained, highly affectionate, and ready to find a dedicated forever family! To ensure he succeeds, Bucky needs an adopter who understands his specific training needs.

Bucky is a sweet, affectionate 3-year-old Blenheim Cavalier born 1/5/23. This boy has a big personality and an even bigger heart. He loves being near his people, following them from room to room, relaxing on the couch, or snuggling in bed. He is fully house-trained, well-behaved indoors, and not destructive.

Bucky enjoys walks, playtime, and his favorite toys, an orangutan and a rabbit. He can get excited during play, sometimes gently nibbling fingers or barking enthusiastically. He also snores quite loudly at night! He generally does very well with other dogs and would enjoy a friendly canine companion in his new home. Bucky is food motivated and eats twice daily. At approximately 25 pounds, his veterinarian recommends a target weight of 20 pounds. Bucky is healthy, neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.

Bucky has a significant resource-guarding behavior involving human belongings, such as clothing, napkins, bags, and other items left within reach. He can become intensely protective of these objects, and he may bite if someone attempts to take a guarded item away. There has been one known bite incident involving a foster caregiver. Although the bite was minor and did not break the skin, this behavior must be taken seriously.

His foster family has found that Bucky responds best to patience, space, and nonconfrontational redirection. He may eventually lose interest in an item if left alone, and carefully redirecting him toward a high-value treat or enjoyable activity can help. Forcibly taking items or confronting him can escalate the situation, so careful management is essential.

Bucky needs an experienced, patient, and committed adopter who understands resource guarding and is prepared to continue working with a qualified trainer or behavior professional. His family must consistently manage his environment, keep tempting belongings out of reach, and follow a safety and behavior-management plan. Continued training, supervision, and responsible management will be essential; his resource guarding should not be expected to resolve on its own.

Bucky is not suitable for a home with young children. An adult household is ideal, although older, dog-savvy individuals may be considered if his boundaries and safety needs can be consistently respected.

A yard would be a bonus but is not required. Bucky can thrive in a house, condo, or apartment with regular walks, exercise, enrichment, and companionship.

Despite his challenges, Bucky is a loving, playful companion who enjoys cuddles, kisses, walks, and being part of the family. He has so much love to give and deserves a home that appreciates his wonderful qualities while realistically understanding his needs. With the right experienced adopter, a safe environment, patience, structure, and continued professional training, Bucky will have the best opportunity to thrive.
