Buddy in Fair Oaks, CA

Meet Buddy in Fair Oaks, CA! This sweet, little 2 year old boy came into rescue with a host of needs. At only 10 lbs when he arrived, he was the tiniest adult Cavalier that his Foster Mom had ever seen. He was so shy, anxious and scared of almost everything and everyone.

He had no vet records, and was still intact. He had blood in his stool, most likely from stress. His fecal results came back normal two times. We tested twice because we wanted to make sure we didn’t miss anything. We quickly realized that he was not house broken at all. This poor little guy. With great vet care and a seasoned, loving Foster Mom, we got him back to normal , lowered his stress and Buddy began to settle in. After having him neutered he is quickly learning to go outside “good boy Buddy “.

Buddy enjoys playing and cuddling with other small dogs. He’s had many playful interactions with 5 other Cavaliers while in rescue and done great in that regard. He does have major issues with food aggression at meal time and must be fed in his crate, if you have another pup at home. It is “work” to get him to eat, if he can see another dog, when the food bowl is out. He will take treats nicely out of your hand with the other pups present,  but when meal time arrives, in the crate he must go.  He would also do well with an owner who is home alone where he can settle in and realize he doesn’t need to guard his food anymore. He is perfect with human interaction. If he’s eating, you can pick him up, move his food, move him, whatever!

Buddy does not tolerate cats, indoor or outdoor. A small yard that is completely secure would be best for our little guy. Even though he’s so tiny, he can jump a 3′ fence. If you have a condo or townhouse with a small patio yard, it must have a secure fence for his safety. The bottom of your fence must touch the ground completely so he cannot slip under it. Buddy really doesn’t care for walks, he gets scared of the great unknown and would prefer to just be near, on the couch and get his exercise through playtime and a few Zoomies.

Buddy loves and trusts his foster mom but still takes time to warm up and trust others. He is very loving and sweet, you just need to be gentle, patient and kind to him and he will learn to trust. The NorCal Coordinator took care of him for almost 2 weeks and he warmed up to her quickly, by the 3rd day he was in her lap wanting pets. She fell in love with him and had so much fun watching him play. He bonded with her quickly, so we know he will attach to his new humans quickly too.

Buddy is sweet, playful and loves to cuddle on the couch. He plays with toys with his foster mom.  He does great in his crate for car rides and sleeps in his crate peacefully at night. Buddy is scared of children and cats, which is a bummer because we know how cute and desirable he is. He will do best in an adult home where you are home most of the time, so he can be his silly little self, and do zoomies like no other! If you work out of the house, he is not the guy for you. He needs and deserves lots of attention.

Since coming into rescue Buddy has been fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and is heart healthy.

Buddy is really opening up and showing his sweet, fun personality and learning to trust more people.

The recommendations for this precious little guy are to be in a calm, forever home with one or two adults that are willing to spend the time that he deserves to earn his trust. That someone is home most of the time to train him, walk him and love on him. (Note: Buddy will do best with a dog savvy, confident, gentle person that has experience with dogs with trust issues).

This sweet, sweet boy is ready to be smothered with love and kindness.
