Darcy in Oak Island, NC

Meet Darcy, a gorgeous black and tan Cavalier who came to us when her family could no longer give her the life she deserved. They lovingly surrendered her to us to help find her a new furever home. She was born on December 26, 2018 so is a well-adjusted adult pup. Darcy is a sweet, calm and is the consummate “velcro dog” for her chosen person.    

Darcy arrived to us in need of  a good grooming. She was severely matted and needed to be shaved, including her Cavalier ears, but her coat will quickly grow back to that beautiful silky Cavalier coat we all love. She also needed a dental, and was brought current on her vaccines and preventatives.  

She would be just fine as the only dog as she is more attached to her people than other animals. She will select a favorite person in the family, usually “Mom” but is friendly to everyone. She is very intelligent, curious and observant and easily sets into a routine. Once she decides you are her Person; she lovingly follows you everywhere, wants lots of lap or snuggle time and freely gives kisses.

She would do best in a home where she can sleep in the people bed as that seems to be what she was accustomed to with her prior family. She loves to explore outside but will need more training on walks and leash training. A fenced-in yard for her new home would be best so she can explore until better adjusted to leash walks. She can be very shy when introduced into new environments, but comes around quickly. She may need hand-feeding until adjusted to her new home and family in order to get her to eat.

Darcy has not been tested around cats or children. Because of her calm, yet assertive demeanor, she would do best in a quieter home with no small children, where someone is home most of the day. Her new owner should be experienced enough to handle Darcy’s dominant tendencies, especially if there are other dogs in the home. If there are other dogs, she’d do best with a max of 1-2 other like-sized, calm, submissive dogs.
