Dino and Stella in Chesapeake, VA
Introducing the inseparable duo, Dino (Black & Tan) and Stella (Ruby), two delightful siblings born on November 27, 2022. These resilient pups entered rescue when Stella required patella surgery, which was successfully completed in July. She is scheduled for a final vet checkup and release in September, ensuring she’ll be ready for her forever home.
Stella and Dino are guaranteed to bring endless joy and playful energy into your life. They thrive on engaging in activities, staying curious about their surroundings, and then settling down for a peaceful night’s sleep after a day full of adventures.
Upon their arrival, both Stella and Dino were a bit on the heavier side but have since achieved healthy weights. Stella weighs 27 lbs and Dino weighs 37 lbs. They possess a hearty appetite, so keeping treats and food out of reach is a must! They adore leisurely strolls in the yard and would flourish in a fenced environment where they could bask in the sun on a beautiful day. They exhibit excellent leash manners and are perfectly house-trained, even signaling their need to go outside before you offer. It’s truly heartwarming to witness Stella’s affectionate nature as she frequently grooms Dino’s face and playfully keeps tabs on his every move.
To ensure their comfort and prevent mischief when left alone or overnight, they have their own dedicated “condo,” a secure and cozy space they’ve come to love. They are often found napping together, content in their shared haven.
Meal times are managed by feeding them in separate areas, a strategy implemented to prevent Dino from sneakily finishing Stella’s portion! When they anticipate meal preparation, their excitement is palpable, often expressed through adorable whining and barking. We continue to work on this, and their progress has been remarkable since their arrival.
Their enthusiasm for going outside is unmistakable, as they jump and bark to let you know it’s time for an adventure. They revel in walks and even enjoy car rides, including trips to the vet! Stella has a peculiar fondness for chewing on pinecones, gumballs, sticks, and clumped grass cuttings. Currently residing in a serene country setting with few immediate neighbors, they occasionally interact with two dogs next door, resulting in a chorus of barks. They’ve also encountered horses nearby, initially barking at them, but have steadily grown accustomed to their presence, barking less with each sighting—they’re truly quick learners!
Dino is quite the TV enthusiast, often barking at other animals, especially dogs, on screen. Both he and Stella are incredibly social with other dogs of all shapes and sizes, having successfully interacted with numerous boarders during their stay. While their reaction to cats is unknown, given the absence of feline companions in their current home, their love for people, including small children, is undeniable.
Above all, Stella and Dino simply crave being near you, and if there’s an opportunity, they’ll happily snuggle into your lap. Due to their size and Stella’s recent surgery, stairs are provided for them to access the couch or bed. When stairs aren’t available, Stella will charmingly place her front paws up, indicating her desire to be lifted, and she’ll need a little assistance from there.
