Dixie in Fallbrook, CA

Meet Dixie! This incredibly sweet, approximately nine-year-old Tricolor Cavalier has left her past behind, and is embracing her new beginning with grace and resilience.

Rescued from a commercial breeder, it was clear that Dixie had spent much of her life having litter after litter. Those days are now a distant memory. Dixie is now ready to enjoy the love, care, and comfort she has always deserved.

From the moment she arrived in her foster home, Dixie settled in as if she’d been there all along. She quickly picked up on the daily routine, following her Cavalier foster siblings outside to potty and explore. Dixie has a natural curiosity and enjoys sniffing around the yard, taking in every scent and movement with a gentle enthusiasm.

Dixie does well when left alone for short periods, especially since she always has a canine companion by her side. (Her foster home includes a playful Cavalier puppy.) While Dixie is patient, she isn’t shy about setting boundaries, especially when it comes to her food!

Mealtime is one of her favorite parts of the day. If you’re not moving fast enough, she’ll let you know with an adorable tap dance and a few vocal reminders that she’s ready to eat.

During her time in foster care, Dixie received a full veterinary evaluation, including a comprehensive cardiac work-up before her spay surgery. She was diagnosed with a Grade 4/6 heart murmur and is now on daily medication to help keep her condition stable. This will be a lifelong requirement, but she’s responding well and continues to thrive. Of course, she prefers her medicine to be hidden inside a delicious treat… can you blame her?

Dixie also healed from several dental extractions, is now up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, and has fully recovered from some gastrointestinal issues. Dixie has some stiffness in her spine, but it doesn’t stop her from moving about at her own pace throughout the day.

She has a small skin tag on her upper eye that does not require any further treatment. Dixie is the epitome of a laid-back, senior lady.

Dixie rides beautifully in the car and is a perfect errand buddy. She would also make a terrific office mate for someone who works from home. Dixie presently sleeps soundly next to her foster parent’s bed as long as she knows they are nearby.

Nothing seems to rattle her, and she radiates calm and contentment. Dixie is ready to be someone’s devoted and loving companion.

This deserving senior is ready to bring joy, comfort, and a whole lot of love into her new home.
