Emily in York, PA

Say hello to Emily, or more affectionately known as Emmy, Yammy, and Sweet Yam. This little 6 year old Ruby girl is ready to steal your heart! She is the definition of a sweet, friendly Cavalier and the family who snags her will be the luckiest indeed!

Emily came into rescue from Lancaster County as a retired breeding dog from a commercial breeder. She was initially scared to walk through doorways, hesitant on a leash and wary of strangers. But with the help of her furry foster brother she learned to overcome all of that! Emmy’s curious and silly personality emerged over time and now she is even the leader of the daily walk, one of her favorite things to do. She will also occasionally play with toys but she is truly happiest when she is cuddling with her favorite human or another canine companion. For this reason, another friendly dog who doesn’t mind their personal space being invaded is a requirement for Emmy’s future forever family. Having her humans home most of the time would also be a benefit for this cuddle bug. 

Emily’s foster family says she was the easiest pup to potty train they ever had! She goes out into their fenced yard about every 4 hours, plus a short morning walk that she enjoys very much. She is trained to be in a crate by herself when no one is home and overnight, but she would be much happier if she were to be allowed in the crate of another dog. 

Emily has recently been spayed, had a dental cleaning, and had a small mass removed. As is the case with many Cavaliers, she also has a grade 4 heart murmur. She has been seen by a cardiologist and does not need any medication at this time. The cardiologist has recommended at least yearly check-ups of her heart to ensure she stays healthy for as long as possible. Emily also came into rescue with very sensitive skin. She may need to take seasonal allergy medication, and will need to always have her flea, tick and heartworm preventative taken monthly to combat any allergic reactions. 

Sweet Emmy is truly a special little lady. She will make you giggle when she rolls onto her back for scritches and belly rubs. She will make you proud when you can take her anywhere and she is a friend to all. And she will make your heart grow every single time she curls up in your lap for a snuggle session. Emily has spent her whole life caring for all her puppies and now it’s time for her to be pampered and spoiled like the princess she is!
