Fletch in Fort Collins, CO
Fletch is a ruby boy, with some splashes of white accent. He was purchased at a pet shop as a puppy and came into rescue when his people no longer had room for him. Fletch was born on August 22, 2016, but one would never guess his age when meeting him. He is taller than many Cavaliers, weighs 27.3 pounds and is not overweight. This ruby boy has the energy and movement of a much younger dog. He loves running around the backyard chasing any available squirrels or rabbits. Want to go on a walk? He is ready and willing! He is also happy to snuggle at home.
Fletch is confident and outgoing. He loves all people and wants to be with them. He is more obedient than the typical foster dog. He has gotten along well with a variety of dogs – ranging from Cavaliers of various sizes and ages to a terrier to a large shepherd mix, but he does have a tendency to mount some dogs (not all). His big vice is open doors and he will bolt out the front door for an adventure if given the chance. Due to this, it would be best if he were not in a home with children who may accidentally provide this opportunity. He can be a bit pushy about grabbing treats – another good reason not to put him with children.
Sadly, he was not well cared for in the months before he came to rescue which left his hair badly matted. His parting gift was to have all of his hair shaved off, but that will grow back. A photo of him before the shaving gives some hint of how handsome he can be when his hair returns. (Not that he is not adorable now!)
While in foster care, Fletch had an exam and received a microchip. No heart murmur was heard. He is in very good health! Fletch had a benign skin mass near his collar which would not usually be a concern, but it had gotten rather large due to the collar rubbing on it. Occasionally it would bleed when bumped by the collar. That mass was removed while in foster care and he is doing well without it. He does seem to have diminished hearing. He is not deaf, but does not hear as well as he should.
Fletch would be best in a home where he will have plenty of attention and time with his person or people. A fenced yard is preferred and he will keep it clear of squirrels and bunnies. No children living in the home due to his love of bolting out the front door and he can be pushy when grabbing treats. He has been use to being an only dog, but has been good with a variety of dogs in foster care.
