Some dogs spend their lives being loved.

Harley spent his life making sure other dogs existed to be loved.

Harley was one of the original Cavaliers at a large breeding facility in northeast Arkansas. He wasn’t one of the dogs rescued during the initial intake in February. He stayed behind because he was considered too valuable to let go. As the primary stud for many of the dogs there, his worth had always been measured by what he could produce—not by who he was.

When Harley finally made his way into Cavalier Rescue USA a month later, his new life could finally begin.

And what a wonderful life he’s discovered.

Harley has embraced everything that comes with being a cherished family dog. He’s become the definition of a Velcro Cavalier, happiest when he’s curled up beside his person on the couch, following them from room to room, or soaking up every bit of love and attention he can get. After years of knowing only one purpose, Harley has decided that retirement suits him just fine. He’s proudly mastered the art of being a world-class couch potato.

He’s also incredibly handsome. With his broad face, soulful eyes, and fluffy coat, Harley has earned comparisons to a mini Saint Bernard. Everywhere he goes, people comment on just how striking he is. He’s as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside, with a gentle, loving personality that makes everyone who meets him fall in love.

Harley has received exceptional veterinary care while in rescue. He is up to date on his vaccinations, has had a complete dental, and recently underwent surgery to correct his luxating patella. Because of his knees, his forever family will need to provide pet stairs so he can safely get on and off the bed and couch. Jumping should be avoided so his knees stay healthy for years to come.

Harley also has dry eye and will require daily eye drops for the rest of his life. It’s a simple routine that keeps his eyes comfortable and healthy.

He is house-trained but, like many rescue dogs, may need a little patience and consistency as he adjusts to a new home and routine. With kindness and encouragement, he’ll settle in beautifully.

Harley would thrive in a home with another confident dog to help show him the ropes and reassure him as he continues discovering what it means to be a beloved family member. A securely fenced yard is important so he can safely wander, explore, and even enjoy a little run now that his knees are feeling so much better. Because of his gentle nature and recent knee surgery, a home without small children would be best. Harley is looking for a family where someone is home most of the time and he won’t be left alone for long hours.

More than anything, Harley deserves a family that sees him for who he is—not for what he once was. He deserves soft beds, lazy Sunday mornings, cozy evenings on the couch, belly rubs, and a lifetime of being someone’s beloved companion.

Harley has spent his entire life giving to others.

Now it’s finally someone else’s turn to give a lifetime of love back to him.

As with all of our dogs, adopters must be willing to travel to Little Rock, Arkansas, to complete the adoption. We do not ship or transport dogs to their new homes, as we believe meeting your new family member in person is an important part of the adoption process.
