Honey Bear in Pearland, TX

Meet Honey Bear, or as he also goes by, Bear. This handsome 9-year-old Cavalier is a gentle, talkative boy who has been showing us more and more of his personality as he settles into foster care. He’s the kind of guy who will happily let you know when he needs some attention — usually with a gentle little paw tap.

Bear has had his full vetting and shots. He recently had a full cardio workup and while he does have a grade 3 heart murmur, he is on no medication at this time. His forever home will just need to have him monitored under veterinarian orders for the future. He also had a full dental and while he lost 7 teeth that does not slow him down at all. Sometimes Bear makes a rasping sound, this has been looked at by the veterinarian, and it occurs due to the shape of his soft palate. The rasping usually only happens when he is anxious but does not affect him at all.

Bear can take some time to adjust to a new family and home. In foster care, we’ve watched him slowly become more comfortable, and it’s been wonderful to see his confidence grow. He arrived with some anxiety traits, including chasing his tail and lying beside the water bowl. Thankfully, both behaviors have stopped as he has become more settled and secure.

Bear will need a home where he can settle and become comfortable, he will need a patient family.  He would do best with an adult home as younger children and teens would be overwhelming for him. Once Bear settles in he is very talkative and isn’t afraid to share his opinions — this boy has things to say! He would love to sleep in his forever homes big bed with his new doggy siblings. He will need another dog in the household and has shown signs of playing with his younger foster sibling the more he has become comfortable. A confident, friendly companion would be ideal.

He is definitely a boy who enjoys his food! Because he does have resource guarding tendencies, he is crated separately during meals and will need an adopter who understands and is willing to continue appropriate management around food and valued items. This would include any kind of chew toys.

Bear isn’t looking for a whirlwind of excitement. He’s looking for patience, consistency, canine companionship, and someone who will give him the time he needs to feel safe and truly settle in. Once he knows he’s home, you’ll get to see the wonderful personality that has been slowly coming out in foster care.
