Jackson in Olathe, KS

Say hello to this sweet Blenheim boy, Jackson. Jackson turned 5 years old on June 16th.

After his owner passed away, his family contacted Cavalier Rescue USA. He came to us with advanced glaucoma in his left eye and he needed a dental. After his vet exam, it was determined that Jackson’s left eye was sightless and the pressure was causing substantial discomfort. The best option for Jackson was to have his eye removed, and that was done along with his dental cleaning. Jackson has a mild heart murmur, though no meds are needed at this time. He has recovered from his surgery and we can tell that he is more comfortable now.

Jackson has settled into the routine at his foster home – he loves to hang out with foster mom in the kitchen or sit on her lap watching TV. He likes when foster mom pets him, and if she stops, he’ll nudge her hand to keep going. He likes to go on walks in the neighborhood, though he’s typically content going just a short ways before returning home. Jackson is very treat motivated and knows his name well! He’s a smart boy and will sit on command. At 20 lbs, he could lose a pound or two, so he would benefit from regular walks to keep him at a healthy weight.

Foster mom says that Jackson always wants to be near her, and he doesn’t like being left alone for too long. He wants to stay with his human day and night. Jackson is friendly with everyone, including children. We are looking for a home where he would not be left alone for long periods. He gets along with other dogs, and another easy-going dog in the house would be okay – though he would be fine as an only pet as well. We think he would do best in a quiet, calm environment, rather than a busy, active household. Mostly he wants to be with his human, and he will be a loving companion for someone.

Jackson has been through a lot this summer. First, he lost his owner; then he was transferred to Rescue; then he lost his eye (but now the pain is gone). Through all the stress, his gentle personality has remained intact – always sweet and loving while in the care of his foster mom. He has been neutered, micro-chipped, and he’s up to date on vaccines.

Jackson is being fostered in Olathe, KS. His ideal forever home would be one with a fenced yard and someone home at least part of the day. Another dog in the house would be okay, but not necessary.
