Kaylani in Derby Line, VT
In the true spirit of rescue, we introduce to you, Kaylani.

Kaylani suggests a name associated with warm sandy beaches, glistening ocean waves and swaying palm trees. Her existence, prior to rescue, was far from the vision her name evokes. Kaylani came from an unsettled background where she did not live a life of warmth and comfort. She was tiny, fearful and feisty. Thankfully, she is now safe in rescue and learning what it means to be loved, cared for and cuddled. It has been a long process and she is not finished yet.

Kaylani has a future, a bright future. She is currently seeking a position as neck warmer, shadow and cuddler extraordinaire. She is smart and wants to learn, and is highly qualified for these tasks. Her hobbies include going for walks, snuggling on the couch with her foster mom and generally lounging with her favorite person of choice. She needs a very specific type of person to “employ” her, one who will be patient, kind and loving, someone who will see the possibilities of devotion and the willingness to love in her.

Kaylani is healthy and has had litters in the past. She is up-to-date on immunizations and preventatives, and will be spayed and microchipped before she is adopted. We estimate her age to be somewhere between 3 and 4 years old. She is currently being treated for a parasite, and will be cleared before she can go to a new home.

Kaylani is learning to walk on a leash and working on basic commands. She should be kept on a regular schedule to facilitate house training. Her new owner should be committed to continuing her education. She will require a secure, physically-fenced yard because she is a Houdini at escaping! She will try to go under, around, through or over a fence or gate she feels can be conquered!

She is being crate-trained and does very well in her crate all night long.
Kaylani barks at, and is fearful of, new people and situations. She will hopefully accept them in time, once she is properly introduced, and realizes they are not there to hurt her. We believe, with lots of love and patience, she will come to realize that people can be kind and hands will not hurt her. Maybe then, when trust and confidence are built, her barks of fear will turn into barks of joy at someone’s arrival.

Kaylani is looking for a calm and quiet home where someone will be there most of the day. Her ideal owner would be someone who is retired or works from home exclusively. She would do best as an only pet, but could possibly do well with an older, mellow, submissive dog of similar size. A home without cats (and chickens!) would be best. A one-person- household with an experienced dog owner could be ideal for her. She would love to have her very own person!

Is there an opening in your heart and home for a little Cavalier who needs someone with experience, as well as patience and love, to believe in her and love her? Can you think outside the box and open your mind to the possibilities that YOU can help Kaylani discover? Can you love her, no matter what?

If you think that Kaylani could be your girl, please submit an adoption application, if you have not done so recently. Then, email Barbara Blanchette to tell her of your interest in Kaylani at: blanchettebarbara06@gmail.com
