Lola in New Hope, PA

For adopters seeking a steady companion who will snuggle in next to them on the sofa or in bed, look no further than 4-year-old Lola. A solid but trim 25-pound girl with a glossy black and tan coat, Lola appreciates friendly adults, calm households and lots of chin scritchens. Lola gets along well with her foster siblings, including a cat.

This shy girl still startles quite easily even after a few months in her foster home. Sometimes she even does a “Kramer” jump-scare when something surprises her. Her foster parents suspect she doesn’t hear well, which may explain her startle response.

Lola came into rescue from a commercial breeder in Lancaster County and had a spay and dental at which time she had a few teeth pulled. She’s developed an interest in acquisitions. Articles of clothing, toys, dog beds and even entire laundry baskets are just some of the items she has claimed. Luckily she has not eaten or destroyed any items; she will give a sharp bark if one of her foster sisters tries to take something she has but she allows her foster parents to remove an item without any issue. Outside of a bark now and then, she has been quiet. Because she is lanky and has a good appetite, she will attempt to counter- and table-surf, which her foster parents have found comedic and heartwarming as Lola gets comfortable in her home, but it also means it’s important to keep items that she might reach away from the edges.

Lola has done well with her house training with few accidents, though she does not signal when she needs to go out. She’s been great at “getting the idea” based on her siblings’ behavior, so it would be best for her to have at least one sibling in her next home. The same is true with her leash walking, which she is slowly getting more comfortable with. Presently Lola has a fenced yard and will need the same in her forever home. Short car rides are okay but she has had car sickness after about 30 minutes regardless of being in a crate or using a dog seatbelt.
