Lucky in Loveland, CO

Meet Lucky, a 14-year-old happy go lucky male Blenheim Cavalier. He loves to follow you everywhere you go. He loves going for rides, exploring the fenced-in yard, meal times, but most of all cuddling with you or taking naps in his favorite bed in the room you are in at the present time.

Lucky weighs about 21 pounds and gets around very well, especially for an older gentleman. He is deaf but that does not stop him from sharing his love with everyone he meets – both humans and other dogs.

Lucky came into rescue because his owners were moving across the country and were concerned about moving a dog that has a heart murmur. While in foster care, Lucky visited the veterinary cardiology specialist department for a complete exam. He has a grade 5 out of 6 heart murmur. His heart enlargement is at a stage B2 so he is now taking pimobendan. Chest x-rays did not show him to be in heart failure. He has occasional coughing due to his heart intermittently compressing some of the airways of the lungs. He should have his next cardiology visit in 4 to 6 months, unless health changes require him to be seen sooner. In the last six weeks, Lucky has had three fainting or syncope episodes.

Although Lucky’s teeth would benefit from a dental, the syncope episodes make anesthesia riskier for him. He is not getting a dental, but is on pain medication to help his mouth feel more comfortable. Despite the bad teeth, he does need to eat out of a dog dish that is made to slow down his eating since he will wolf down his entire meal in seconds otherwise.

Lucky is neutered, microchipped and arrived in rescue with current vaccinations.

Lucky does best when you are around the majority of the time. He does not do well with cats and will chase them. Lucky would love to a fenced in yard to explore. His forever family will need to be committed to monitoring Lucky’s heart and taking him in for follow-up care with cardiology.
