Maddie in Cinnaminson, NJ

Hi everybody! My name is Madigan, but you can call me Maddie. I came to Cavalier Rescue USA from a commercial breeder and I wasn’t in the best of shape. I had a very sore mouth with lots of abscessed and fractured teeth. My coat was very dull and itchy. My ears caused me great pain and were very smelly. I had many babies, too many, and I was very tired. Then, one magical day some very nice people from Cavalier Rescue USA came along. I took a long drive with some nice people called fosters. I couldn’t believe it, and I was a little scared, but my three foster sisters welcomed me with open paws (even the cat liked me)! I liked my Foster Mom and Dad (especially Dad) because they were very gentle with me and gave me the time to adjust to my new surroundings without pressure. Now, it’s time for me to find my forever home, so I’ll let foster Mom and Dad tell you more about me. 

Hi folks, Maddie’s foster parents here! Maddie has simply been the sweetest and easiest foster we have had. She tells the truth about her start in life, but she’s been to the vet to fix her nasty mouth, clear up a nasty ear infection, she was spayed and had a suspicious mammary gland removed and biopsied. Just a cyst, so no further concerns. Maddie was also microchipped and treated with flea/tick and heart worm meds, and all other vaccines. Once she was all sorted out at the vet, she is overall a healthy girl, and mostly likely in the 6-year-old range. The vet suspects she has some low tear production so may need eye medication in the future, but her numbers are fine at the moment but should be monitored moving forward. A 17-lb tricolor girl, she is heart clear, and knees, hips, eyes, hearing are all good. She does show some signs of allergies and she is currently on a hydrolyzed kibble, which she loves. Then again, she loves food of any kind.

Maddie is crate trained, and house trained as long as she gets to go out on a regular schedule. She does not signal her need to go out so we take her out about every two hours. She will need positive reinforcement in her new home but she’s a quick learner. She does not need to go out overnight, but don’t dawdle in the morning or “things” could happen.

When Maddie arrived to our home, she was very shy and skittish, especially when approached from overhead. She still isn’t happy with being picked up, but a small treat helps to overcome her concerns. Within a day, she was up on the couch in the puppy puddle. So far, Maddie does not jump on furniture on her own. Mom believes she is capable, Maddie just doesn’t know it yet. Maddie has no fear of loud noises like vacuum cleaners, thunder, etc.

Maddie does have a voice and will use it when she sees intruders like the mailman, squirrels, wild turkeys, other doggies on a walk. Speaking of walks, Maddie is leash trained with a harness and walks very politely. She is awesome in the car, and does stairs like a champ! Maddie has not been the most playful pup. Toys don’t seem to interest her. She mostly just likes to chill. Maddie sleeps through the night in a crate next to her foster mom and dad and she is very happy with that arrangement. She tried the big bed once and decided she’d rather sleep in her own crate. Fair warning, Maddie ADORES her foster Dad and will follow him everywhere and she can be unsettled for a bit when he’s not in sight. So maybe a quiet household with a man willing to have her as a sidekick would be best. She runs with the pack in her foster home, so would appreciate another canine companion. She has not been tested with kids. A secure fenced yard is a must but Maddie truly prefers being inside getting belly rubs, lots of belly rubs.
