Maisie in Baltimore, MD

Maisie is estimated to be about 7 years old and weighs in at around 16 lbs. She came to Cavalier Rescue USA from a breeding situation. At first arrival, she was extremely shy and unsure of herself. She did not know how to use stairs or eat without hiding food for later. Maisie has made great strides over the past month since she has been in foster care. She is a loving and resilient dog who is ready to find a forever home. After being rescued, she has shown just how affectionate, loyal, and eager she is to trust people.

Maisie is potty trained and crate trained but has had a few accidents in the house when allowed to roam free. Her tell is to come out and look for you and then quickly run back to her favorite spot. If you catch her in time, she prefers to go outside; she just doesn’t have the confidence yet to tell you directly.

Maisie is very quiet at first. She is also extremely tolerant. She has very low whines that let you know she is nearby and wants attention. With time, she will let you know she has a voice. When excited and happy (especially when you come home from work), she lets out an awkward and high-pitched scream. Her tail wags, and she looks at you with her beautiful, deep brown eyes. Maisie is starting to bark now that she has had 9 teeth removed and a dental cleaning and spay. She barks at horses, dogs, and birds on the television. She will also alert you if something unusual is happening outside. She doesn’t like loud noises and would be best suited in a house without young children or a lot of commotion.

Maisie is in foster care with 4 other dogs ranging in size from 5 lbs to 65lbs. She enjoys being part of the pack and has quickly learned the house rules, but she doesn’t like to wrestle or play. Maisie prefers spending time with people, watching television, rolling around in the garden, and relaxing in a cozy spot to nap (the center of the sofa). Maisie tolerates the active puppy, but she has a gentle personality and is happiest when left to wander by herself around the house or yard. When sitting next to her, she will take full advantage and invade all of your privacy. She will nuzzle up as close as she can lay her extra-soft head on you and give you gentle licks.

Maisie is house-trained/crate-trained, up to date on vaccinations, and has been spayed. She was diagnosed with Mitral valve disease and has a stage 4 heart murmur. She has been on medication which costs about  $50 a month. She will also need regular cardiac care along with her regular vet care. Maisie has also had extensive dental work and would benefit from regular teeth brushing. She is very tolerant, and this should not be difficult to accomplish. More information can be provided if requested.

Like many rescue dogs, Maisie has overcome challenges but continues to blossom every day with patience, kindness, and routine. She is looking for a home where she can continue to thrive and share unconditional love.

If you’re looking for a faithful companion who will reward your kindness with endless affection, Maisie could be the perfect addition to your family.
