Mallory in New Hope, PA

If you’re the type of person who likes to plan ahead, petite, six-year-old Blenheim girl Mallory is exactly the Cavalier you need to save on your heating bill next fall and winter. She is a total snugglebug who wants to be with you all the time, whether relaxing on your lap or next to you. In every season, you won’t be able to resist her big, bright Cavalier eyes. Mal is quite shy and will build trust with a regular routine of tiny treats and a calm household. She is generally a mellow dog, and when she isn’t napping, she explores the fenced yard with her foster cat and dog siblings.

On leash in her harness she walks well, though she does take time to stop and smell the flowers, and lots of other things, too. She is friendly with other dogs, although she will bark at them if she sees them from inside her foster parents’ house. Occasionally she gets a little zoomy and plays with a toy or a tennis ball or chases a moth in the yard. Presently she sleeps at night in a crate in her foster parents’ bedroom, but her foster mom and dad are sure she would enjoy sleeping in the big bed. 

Mallory was released by a Lancaster County breeder into rescue. In foster care she was vetted and is heart clear. She has been spayed and had a dental during which she had 16 teeth removed. You might notice the cutest little underbite or Elvis-ish snarl. She may have some hearing impairment but at a certain volume, she does hear her name. Like a lot of Cavaliers, she has a good appetite and will gobble her kibble and wet food – in fact, breakfast and dinner are her two favorite times of day, so her foster parents are careful not to overfeed as she is at just the right weight at 12 pounds. Mallory had a seizure like episode in the car shortly after she was picked up from the farm. She immediately saw the vet and was noticed to be stressed and had high blood pressure but her blood work was normal. She was put on blood pressure medication and was weaned off of it in reacue and no other seizure like behaviors were seen. The veterinarian thought it was isolated stress related incident. 

She is still fine-tuning her potty training but has made steady progress. Rainy days aren’t her favorite, so some extra effort is needed to help her focus on pottying on those days. You have to watch to make sure she does her business. Car rides, baths and brushing are a-ok with cute-as-a button Mallory. As long as her human is nearby, she’s content.

Mallory would do best in a calm home with no kids or older kids preferred. She is not the leader of the pack but likes to see out the other dogs in the house so another small dog as a companion would be preferred.
