Mariposa in North Wales, PA

Here is Mariposa with her new mom…

Mariposa (Mari) is a female 8 year old Tricolor Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She is a retired breeding mom who had never experienced grass, snow or rain. In the beginning she was quite afraid of new situations but quickly adapted to learning new experiences. She is a quiet, friendly, and determined pup who wants attention and a cuddly lap to take her naps. She is not fond of her crate but rides in one in the car. She prefers our covered sofa at home. We have not tried her on the bed but suspect she would enjoy it very much.

She prefers not to be left alone but if given a treat and with background music, we are able to slip out the door for a quick appointment etc. We also recommend a quiet home where her human is home most of the time.

She wasn’t sure about her first bath but relaxed and seemed to enjoy the warm soothing water. We also use a cleansing wipe to clean the folds of her mouth along with cleaning her teeth. She was shaved before she came into rescue but her coat is growing in nicely.

She enjoys meeting and greeting new people. Mari is adapting to our gentle grandson with guidance from us. She has learned how to walk on a leash and enjoys several daily brisk walks.

Mari hasn’t figured out how to play with toys but a second small dog could teach her. She does like to chew on soft Greenies and looks forward to treats. She takes her chewable vitamin and her bedtime calming treat with no problem.

Mariposa has been spayed and had 13 teeth extracted, and was also micro-chipped. She is up to date on all her immunizations and weighs 15 pounds. She does well with her housetraining but needs a consistent schedule. She also has a grade one heart murmur and will need to follow up with a cardiologist for periodic checkups. Mari is hearing challenged and is being treated for an ear infection. She is showing signs of improved hearing as she recovers.
