Maxie in Belleville, IL

JUST ADOPTED!

Here is the pup with her new dad…

Meet Maxie, our 9-year-young sassy senior. She weighs in at 29 lbs and is a bigger-boned Tricolor Cavalier. She came to Cavalier Rescue USA when her owner could no longer care for her.

Maxie is house trained in the daytime but has trouble holding it from 9PM to 6AM. She has learned to use a potty pad next to her orthopedic dog bed but she may need a home that can let her out in the middle of the night if she needs to go out.

She loves to take short walks around the block and go for car rides. She enjoys being off leash at the dog park as well. She is learning the ‘wait/wait/wait’  command when you want her to stop at an intersection when leash walking her,  and will respond to the ‘go’ command when you gently tug her leash and proceed. She is also still learning that she shouldn’t sneak out the front door so her forever family will need to continue reinforcing that.  She heartily eats her kibble 2x daily and likes to snack on Charlee Bears treats and chew on elk or deer antlers.

Maxie is up to date on her vaccines and on heartworm and flea/tick  preventatives. She requires drops in her left eye 2x daily due to dry eye syndrome and some will be sent to her new family. She takes eye drops easily. She also appreciates some coconut oil in her ears and on her foot pads several times weekly.  She does have separation anxiety and would do best in a home where someone is at home most of the time. She gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home but has not been cat tested.

Maxie is spayed and has been fully vetted and does not have a heart murmur which is great for her age. Due to prior lack of proper care, her nails are growing in several directions and they must be kept short so they will regrow correctly over time. Maxie came into rescue with very low muscle tone due to lack of exercise in her previous home. Her muscle tone is beginning to return but will take some time with more short walks(gradually increasing the distance) and exercise. She is most comfortable in her elevated orthopedic dog bed or on the couch. She and her foster sister enjoy being cozy and sleeping in the elevated orthopedic dog bed. She should not be allowed to jump off or on beds or couches however after you gently lift her to a couch, she will curl up with you and loves having her ears scratched and head rubbed.

In her foster home, she earned the name of being the ‘sassy senior’ because she barks at her younger brothers if she thinks they are misbehaving and will bark at you if her water bowl is empty or if she wants to play with you. Overall she is the sweetest girl you will ever meet and has plenty of love to give.

If you are interested in adding Maxie to your family, please submit an adoption application(if you haven’t already) and email Meg Hutson Eisenmenger at cavalierrescuemeg@gmail.com to let her know of your interest.
