Oliver in North Plainfield, NJ

Hi! I’m Oliver, a handsome  2 year old Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who was born on November 15, 2023. I weigh 19 pounds right now, though the vet says I could stand to lose a few pounds and would be happiest around 15-16 pounds. I was very much loved and cared for by my previous family, but I came into rescue after they realized the environment I was living in wasn’t the best fit for me. Now, I’m looking for a very special forever home that understands my quirks and will love me just the way I am.

I’m up to date on vaccines, am neutered and microchipped, and ready to find my perfect match.

First things first: if you love playing fetch, we might just be soulmates. Fetch is my absolute favorite thing in the world! I love it outside, I love it inside, and I never seem to get tired of it. A fenced yard would be a dream come true because I’d happily spend several sessions a day chasing balls and toys.

I’m a very loving boy who enjoys being with my people, but I do have some special requirements. My foster family says I come with an instruction manual. I prefer to think of myself as a dog who knows exactly what he likes!

I must be the only pet in the home. I’m happiest when I don’t have to share the spotlight with other dogs, cats, or any other animals. I also need an adult only home with no children, whether they live in the home or visit regularly. My ideal home is calm, predictable, and able to respect the boundaries that help me feel safe and successful.

I like routine and have a very specific dinner ritual and diet requirements. If things aren’t done the way I think they should be, I may politely let you know by staring at you and refusing to eat until you try again. Consistency makes me feel safe and comfortable.

Outside of my little quirks, I’m actually a pretty laid-back guy. After a good game of fetch, I’m perfectly happy hanging out while you work, relaxing nearby, or watching the world go by from a comfy spot. I love being around my people, but am not a lap dog. One of my favorite things is showing off my toys. If you’ve been gone for a while or someone comes to visit, chances are I’ll proudly greet them with a toy in my mouth.

I can also be vocal when I see other animals or hear things going on around me. Dogs walking by the house, animals on TV, or unexpected noises may earn a few barks. Because of this, a single-family home may be the best fit for me, and my new family should be prepared to continue working with me on my reactivity.

I do well going into the backyard on a leash to take care of business, but I currently prefer staying close to home rather than going for walks. With patience, confidence building, and training, my foster family believes I can continue making progress.

I have also shown some guarding behaviors from time to time and may growl in certain situations. The good news is that it isn’t consistent, and with proper training and management, my foster family believes I can continue improving. At the end of the day, I’m a sweet, loving boy looking for someone who understands me and is willing to embrace my quirks. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion, an enthusiastic fetch partner, and a toy-carrying greeter who’s always happy to see you.
