Phoebe and Pearl in Logansport, IN

Phoebe and Pearl are a bonded pair. Phoebe is an 11-year-old Blenheim, and Pearl is a 10-year-old and black and white. Both girls were in rough shape when they came into rescue, but they are now thriving in their foster home. They have wonderful, sweet personalities. They are a relaxed and affectionate pair who just want a comfortable and loving home for the rest of their days.

Both girls spend most of their time napping in their favorite spots. Phoebe absolutely loves sleeping on the back of the couch, especially if she can rest against someone’s shoulders. Pearl prefers sleeping on the couch next to other dogs. Both enjoy spending time with their foster family’s other Cavaliers. Neither of the girls are particularly active or enjoy playing with toys, but they will quite happily cuddle and enjoy a few treats.

Phoebe and Pearl have both had some health challenges. Both were significantly underweight when they came into rescue, but they have now made it to a much healthier weight. Also, both girls have grade 2 mitral valve disease. Neither need heart medication at this time, but they will need to visit the cardiologist every six to nine months to check for progression.

They are up to date with their vaccinations, and they take a monthly flea and heartworm preventative. Phoebe had a dental and lost several teeth. Pearl does not have any teeth.

Pearl has diabetes insipidus. This is not the usual type of diabetes that causes issues with blood sugar. Instead, with diabetes insipidus, the body does not produce a hormone needed to regulate the retention of water, and it causes excessive drinking and urination. Pearl is now being treated for her diabetes insipidus, and her drinking and urination have improved significantly. She will have to take medication (eye drops) for this condition for the rest of her life. This medication costs approximately $45 a month.

Additionally, Pearl has a broken jaw. The veterinarian believes her jaw has been broken for many years, and, at this point, it does not bother her or require treatment. She is able to eat without a problem. Pearl also hears very little.

Both girls are still working on housetraining. Now that Pearl is being treated for diabetes insipidus, she is doing much better. While her excessive urination has drastically improved, she still needs to go out more often than average.

When they first arrived, Phoebe did not like walking on grass, but, with encouragement, she has been doing better with going into the backyard. Unlike Phoebe, Pearl enjoys walking around the yard at her own pace, so a fenced yard will be important for her. Their new family will have to be able to take them out regularly and continue their housetraining.

Both girls love being with people and other dogs. They will happily follow you around the house or relax near you. Phoebe has some mild separation anxiety and does not like be separated from Pearl or her human. However, they are fine when home alone for a few hours.

Phoebe and Pearl are wonderful girls who are sweet, affectionate, and laid-back. They have a lot of love to give, and they deserve a fabulous home for the rest of their lives. They would enjoy a home with someone there most of the time, with other small, friendly dogs, and with a safely fenced yard.
