Remy in Seattle, WA

Meet Remy, a handsome tricolor Cavalier King Charles Spaniel whose greatest joy in life is playing fetch—with you forever, if you’ll let him. At just 2½ years old, he’s bright, playful, and affectionate, with the quintessential Cavalier sweetness that wins hearts instantly.

This charming boy has been through quite the journey during his young life. Although stable now, he arrived in rescue this summer after a year of struggling with uncontrolled seizures. He has a diagnosis of primary idiopathic epilepsy and has had a full neurological workup, including an MRI and CSF analysis. Thanks to ongoing care and controlled changes to his medications, Remy is thriving—full of energy, curiosity, and love for life—and his seizures are well controlled.

Remy has a fun and quirky personality. He loves playing, exploring, and even “talks back” when dogs bark on the TV. He doesn’t bark at dogs in real life though. Remy enjoys meeting new people and dogs out on walks, and while he shares his foster home peacefully with another Cavalier, we think he’d also be perfectly content as an only dog. He has an impressive vertical leap and would rather jump after butterflies in the yard than play with a companion.

When taking treats and playing tug, Remy can be a bit mouthy, so we feel he would do best in an adult-only home or with older, dog-savvy teens. He’s otherwise gentle and affectionate—a cheerful, cuddly companion who absolutely wants to be velcroed to your side 24/7, ideally right next to your lap. If you’re not careful he will lick your nose.

While in foster, Remy has been an exemplary office dog accompanying his foster mom and her Cavalier to the office during the week. With a few key play sessions and regular outings, he’s content to settle on a dog bed under the desk. He might be the most popular one in the office, with many visitors stopping by in search of some dog therapy throughout the workday.

Remy has an excellent training foundation. He’s house-trained, has impeccable recall, and reliably “drops it” during fetch. He knows “sit” and waits politely for permission before eating. He walks well on leash with a front-clip harness and loves having a consistent routine.

Because Remy has epilepsy, he will continue to have seizures for the rest of his life. Controlled, the seizures should not impact his longevity and should be at a manageable frequency. He currently takes three anticonvulsants (phenobarbital, potassium bromide, and keppra) that cost $40 per month.

It’s imperative that his forever family remain dedicated to his medical needs, especially when it comes to his daily medications and bi-annual lab work to check the level of medications in his blood stream. He also needs regular follow up visits with the neurologist. Remy has no health concerns besides epilepsy, which is great news. He weighs 15 pounds and has been neutered.

Remy has been cleared for adoption by his neurologist and is ready to find his forever home—one where his playful spirit, big heart, and special needs will be truly supported and understood.
