Royal in Mooresville, NC

Royal, a handsome Blenheim boy approximately 5 years old, is the ultimate snuggle buddy! He came to Cavalier Rescue USA after being surrendered by his owner to another rescue group. No reason for surrender was provided, but the rescue wanted to make sure this special boy was placed with a qualified Cavalier adopter.

He is impossible to resist, with his expressive eyes, wagging tail, and preference to be in your lap at all times! He immediately made friends with his Pug and Frenchie brothers and happily follows them in all adventures. He loves all people and is the first to greet you at the door, although we are working on reminding him he doesn’t have to jump up to get attention. He loves to nap, explore closets and underneath tables, and is the fastest to grab any treats being dispensed. He has a great appetite and weighs in at 18.5 lbs, which is a good weight for this pup.

Royal walks well on a leash and loves to explore outside, but must be contained in a fenced yard when not on a leash. He occasionally wears a soft cone around his neck if outside for an extended time since he figured out he could squeeze through the metal fence rails! He was found to be hearing impaired when evaluated upon intake, and therefore does not respond to verbal commands very well. However he does seem to understand when corrected, instructed to go to his bed, or stay when a door is open. Catching him to get his attention first is crucial as he is quick as lightening!

He currently sleeps in a bed or open crate in a large laundry room with his brothers and has no objections, but would probably prefer to sleep in the big bed with his new humans.

He does object to being left alone and barks quite energetically. Fortunately, he usually stops after a few moments. He loves to go for car rides and settles down quite comfortably in the front seat with a seatbelt extender.

Royal was neutered when surrendered and has retained a tendency for marking. He is continent and can hold his urine all night or for extended periods of time during the day, but a belly band is still recommended when inside. Frequent potty trips outside seem to be helping reduce the incidence of marking and he is quick to do his “business”! With the exception of hearing loss and missing a few teeth, Royal is a very healthy young man. He is current on all vaccinations. He has an adorable habit of spontaneously rolling over on his back and wiggling. This was evaluated at his exam and no health related issue was discerned.

The best home for Royal would be one with an active, experienced caregiver who is home much of the time to continue working on reducing marking behavior, barking, and general obedience training. He has always been around other dogs, so a home with other like-sized canine companions is best. He has not been tested around cats or children.

If you are agreeable to continuing Royal’s adaptations to “proper doggy behavior”, you will be rewarded with unwavering love and attention.
