Shaggy in Plymouth, MI

Meet Shaggy, a handsome 5-month old male ruby-colored Cavalier. Despite his name (his former family members were big Scooby-Doo fans), Shaggy has a very sleek and silky ruby red coat, so there’s nothing Shaggy about him! He also has a tiny blaze of white on his nose and a white chest.

Shaggy came into rescue when his family was no longer able to care for him. But they gave him a great foundation! He has very good house manners, for a puppy, and a sweet disposition. He already knows his name and can sit on command.

He is a little timid when he initially meets new people, but with calm people he warms up quickly. Shaggy is also developing a trademark hug for people who give him some extra attention. He is happy following the other Cavaliers in his foster home and is learning to fetch a ball. Shaggy is also learning to walk on a leash and enjoys the opportunity to be outdoors.

He spends the day chilling in an x-pen or on a doggie bed near his foster mom (who works from home). Shaggy needs to go outside for potty breaks every 4-5 hours. In the evening, Shaggy likes hanging out on the couch next to the people. At night, he sleeps in a crate next to the people bed and easily sleeps through the night without requiring a potty break.

Shaggy is microchipped and up-to-date on his vaccinations. He was given a clean bill of health by the vet. He will need to be neutered when he is about 9 months old. (The adopting family needs to agree in writing to have this procedure performed as a term of his adoption.)

The perfect fur-ever family for Shaggy is one that has someone home during the day to help his with his housebreaking. He is comfortable in a calm home environment, but will need regular activity like walks. Shaggy needs someone who will patient with him when he meets new people. He will also do better in a home where there is another calm, small dog that can help show him the ropes.

If you are home during the day and have a calm home ready for the attention required of a puppy, please complete our online application (if you haven’t already) and send an email to June Kirchgatter at June.cavaliers@gmail.com to let her know that you are interested in Shaggy.  We will only consider applicants that are within a 4-5 hour drive from the foster family. You will also have to agree in writing to get Shaggy neutered when he becomes 9 months old.
