Snickers and Twix in Chesapeake, VA

Meet Snickers and Twix, a bonded senior pair of Blenheim Cavaliers. Snickers is a ten year old female weighing 20 pounds. Twix is an eight year old male who weighs 23 pounds. They are a delightful duo.

Snickers and Twix came to rescue as owner surrenders. Their owners moved into assisted living and could no longer care for them. They were obviously well tended and deeply loved. These two dogs are terrific, although they do have some medical and emotional issues. Both dogs are deaf. They do not respond to their names or handclaps, but seem to understand hand gestures. Both dogs have good appetites.

Snickers is a happy girl whose tail is always wagging. She gets around slowly due to arthritis, but she doesn’t let it stop her from enjoying her life. She just moves slowly. If something is going on with her foster siblings, she wants to be included. She can slowly navigate stairs but won’t jump down from furniture. She has used pets steps on a few occasions. She often will wait for her foster to pick her up and carry her outside. Once there, she manages to take care of business, but needs some time. A fenced yard is a real plus for her.

Snickers is fully housetrained. She alerts by sitting in front of the door or by barking. She is a deep sleeper but a gentle nudge seems to awaken her without startling her. Both dogs would do well in a home without young children.

Twix is a shy boy and very much of an introvert. He does not bark and is a perfect gentleman at all times. He loves the security of his crate. The door is always open and he comes and goes as he pleases. He is slow to warm up to new people, but does so eventually and becomes friendly and more adventurous every day. He will do best in a home where the family is around a lot of the time.

Twix is not anti-social, however. He engages with his foster parents more every day. He loves ear scratches and rubs on his side. He has very soft fur and really enjoys it when you carry him around the house. He loves wandering around the fenced yard and is also good on the leash. He has a grade III heart murmur. He is not on meds for that but will likely need to be down the road.

These two dogs would be a wonderful addition to a home where the family has the patience and tenderness to deal with senior dogs. They are gentle and loving, just slow and with some limitations.
