Snickers in Des Moines, IA

Snickers is an at least a 12-year old heart clear neutered tricolor boy who unfortunately fell off of a bed accidentally about 2 years ago. Though his owner conscientiously took him for emergent and follow-up care with all available options, he remains incontinent of urine and stool. He is mobile and can keep up with short bursts of speed when there is food involved. He is able to go up normal steps pretty easily, going down is harder and only a couple. Since being in rescue, he muscles have become stronger and he has become even more mobile.

He came to us from a very loving home whose owner was unable to keep up with his on-going  care. Though very hard for him to do, he wanted Snickers to have a better living environment.

Snickers wears a disposable belly band that is changed 4-5 times a day to keep him clean. He is on over the counter supplements to keep his bladder and kidneys as healthy as possible. He has really no conception of when he stools, but we have it pretty regulated to a couple times a day. He is on a fiber supplement to keep his stool as normal as possible. He’s been on supplements to support a healthy spine, and one to build muscle as well.

He loves to be with his person, especially on the foot of the lazy-boy. He’s kennel trained but would rather not be in it. He does settle in at night, and when left alone, but does let you know he isn’t happy about it for a few minutes.  

He has done very well in a multi-dog home, but has been an only dog too.  

He loves his food and if left to his own devices would eat and eat and eat. He had a dental upon coming into rescue and lost some teeth, but still has enough chompers to chew on appropriate dental treats. He’s an easy groomer.
