Wally in Laguna Hills, CA

Meet Wally! Every dog deserves his day and that is no exception for this handsome 3-year-old Blenheim pup born 10/19/2020. If you were to ask Wally what his goal in life is – he would tell you he’s looking for a fur-ever best friend. His soulful brown eyes sparkle with the hope of finding a new family that will shower him with the guidance and attention he deserves.

Wally was well loved by his former family. Sharing a house with two young children and a hectic lifestyle contributed to his behavior becoming unpredictable. Despite his friendly demeanor, Wally would occasionally give a warning growl to the children when their actions caused him to feel uneasy. His family disclosed that during an unsupervised playtime, there was a minor bite incident with one of the youngsters. The family made the decision to release him to rescue so that he could find a calmer household. It’s all about the right fit, and for Wally, that would be a low-key person or family that fully understands his needs and is confident they are able provide supervision when kids are nearby or a family with dog savvy older children. During Wally’s time with his foster family, they have not witnessed any aggressive behavior or tendencies in the presence adults or children.

Wally cohabitates with two mild mannered Cavalier foster siblings and will follow their every move. He runs through the yard and is an eager explorer. Wally loves toys and will often carry one around the house with him. He possesses a strong prey drive so his new home should be without cats, birds or other small animals. Wally will bark when left alone but soon settles down. He would do well as an only dog who receives all your attention or would equally be fine sharing his home with a like-minded canine sibling. Someone who works from home would find him to be an excellent office companion.

In the true spirit of a Cavalier, Wally is a quintessential Velcro dog. Wherever you are, he is there. His has a natural ability to match the mood of those he is with. If you are up for a jog, he maintains a steady pace. Brisk walk; his stride matches yours. Chilling on a lounge chair outside; no problem. Wally doesn’t realize his size and that he cannot fit on a lap. He has no concept of personal space and will leap up trying to get as close as possible, always wanting to snuggle some part of the human he is next to.

Wally has stellar potty habits and his foster mom is proud to report he has not had a single accident while in foster care. Wally sleeps contently through the night. He is crate trained but also prefers the comfort of joining the pack as he snores into slumber. This lovable goofball is always up for an adventure and rides well in the car.

Wally is heart clear, vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. At 33 lbs., Wally needs to reach his goal weight of 26-28 lbs. which will help him maintain good health moving forward. He has already started on a weight management regime of measured portions, low calorie treats and daily exercise.

He loves to go for walks with leash training being a work in progress. Wally requires an experienced dog owner, someone with a firm grip since he is strong and has a tendency to pull, especially when he sees another dog. He absolutely feels the need to greet everyone while out and about, often becoming quite vocal. Fortunately, he is extremely food motivated and offering high value treats work to keep him calm and in a sit position. Wally is very receptive to praise so continued positive reinforcement and training will help him become his best self.
