Waylon and Willie in Tulsa, OK
Howdy from Tulsa Oklahoma! I’m Waylan (red collar) and I’m 2 years old. My buddy and bestest friend is Willie (blue collar). He is just one year old. We were abandoned last month in a field in a sparsely populated area. Together we toughed it out, through the cold and rainy nights, and even a few wind and hailstorms. But as determined best buddies, we bonded together to make sure we could take care of each other. We survived. One day, we heard a loud voice calling and whistling at us so we said, “let’s check this out!” As we bound through the sage brush and tall grass, we found a nice lady who met us with open arms and a dry towel! We were quite exhausted. She drove us to her home and set us up in warm beds with fresh water, and a delicious meal. Afterwards, as we did in the field, we cuddled up, fell asleep, and slept till the morning. Again, we had were safe together.
The nice lady contacted Cavalier Rescue USA and they gladly accepted us. The lady had spent several days putting out signs and going to the few houses, contacted vets and put us in Lost and Found online. Other efforts by the Rescue did not find our owners. We were both very dirty, matted, and not pleasant smelling. Whooweee! After two baths, a necessary short hair cut, ears trimmed, and nails clipped, we felt like the Lion in that Wizard of Oz movie! My ears were so matted they had to shave all the hair off and they found serious infections inside and out. I was treated at the vet and feel great now!
At the doctors we were found to be in great health. Our teeth are pearly white, eyes and hearing loud and clear. Our coats are silky smooth. And we smell good. I weigh 24 lbs and Willie weighs 21 lbs. We got neutered and we lost our “Boys”, so our foster dad introduces us as “Willie, Waylan, and NO Boys!” We also got microchips and are on heartworm and flea prevention.
We do everything together! I tend to be the leader but am not dominant. The rescue feels that Willie would have a harder time separating from Waylon as he shows some anxiety if that occurs. We love to sleep, hang, explore, and wrestle with each other. Daddy lets us out every three hours to do our business in the backyard. We haven’t learned to use something called a doggy door yet, but we are willing to learn. We know not to pee or poo in the house but we both have had a few accidents in the same spot, but we are getting better at going outside. Daddy rewards us with a treat when we do! He doesn’t like it when we find a stick and chew it up. He gives us chewy toys and appropriate puppy friendly toys instead.
We take 1/2-mile walks in our harnesses and leashes. Daddy keeps us in line, pacing us so we don’t pull him. He says, “It’s not a race!” We stop when he says stop and go when he says Let’s go! We are polite and sit still when we meet the big people and children on our walks. We love small children, they are so kind to us, and our size too. We don’t jump up on them or anything to scare them. However, we miss dad when he runs errands, and we tend to get so excited when we hear him come home that we do get quite wound up jumping up to greet him wanting his attention. He sits us down to give us head, chin, back, and belly scratches. He will rub our ears and massage our feet before we go to bed. We love him.
Willie and I are bonded buddies. We would love to have a family happy to adopt us together to love and care for us. We think you will really like our fun personalities, playful bantering, politeness, following you around, and being close to you wherever you sit, to snuggle in your lap, or just spend time with you.
