Winston in Sandpoint, ID

Winston is a sweet 3 1/2-year-old Cavalier with a heart of gold. In the few weeks that he has been with his foster family, he has exemplified everything there is to love about the breed. He is happiest when he is with his people, whether he is giving kisses, sitting on your lap, going for a walk, or relaxing on the couch.

Winston was surrendered because his previous owners did not have enough time to dedicate to him, and he truly deserves a family that can provide the attention he craves. He is crate trained and goes in willingly when his foster family leaves, waiting patiently and greeting them happily upon their return.

While initially shy, he quickly befriended the other dogs in his foster home—two Newfoundlands and another Cavalier. He enjoys exploring the backyard, sniffing flowers, and chasing squirrels and birds with his friends.

Winston is also very bright. He knows basic commands such as sit, down, stay, and come. He will even shake hands and play fetch, reliably returning the ball to your feet. His foster family is currently working with him on leash training, as he tends to pull when excited.

He has been introduced to cats and chickens with no issues and has even visited a river; while he dipped his toes in, he didn’t show much interest in swimming. On farm visits, he stayed close to his people even when off leash.

At his recent veterinary intake, Winston was declared to be in perfect health. He weighs a healthy 20 pounds, has no heart murmur, and is up to date on vaccinations and flea/tick preventatives. He is also recovering well from his recent neuter. He is fully housebroken and has had no accidents in his foster home. He shows no food aggression and is happy to share his bowl. 

Winston would thrive in a home where someone is present most of the time, ideally with a large, fenced yard and another dog for companionship.
