Bailey in Overland Park, KS

Bailey is a very sweet 5 year old black & tan girl looking for her forever home. She was born Jan 18, 2020. Her previous owners were facing health issues, so they made the difficult decision to release Bailey to Cavalier Rescue USA. We were told that she had back problems and that stairs were difficult for her. They believe that she may have been hit by a car before they got her.

Our vet examined her and x-rayed her back, which showed evidence of a previous spinal injury. Bailey had not been to the vet in over two years – she badly needed a dental, and she was not current on vaccines. She had the dental cleaning and lost several teeth. Our vet recommended anti-inflammatory meds to manage periodic back pain, and she doesn’t appear to be having discomfort since starting the medication. Bailey’s heart is good (no cardiac murmur), and her knees checked out fine (normal patella). She’s totally housebroken, spayed, micro-chipped, up to date on vaccinations, recovered from her dental, and is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

Bailey is an absolute sweetheart – very loving and affectionate. During the first few days in foster care, she was emotional and showed extreme separation anxiety. When foster mom left the house, even for a short period, Bailey would bark loudly and whine and cry. She likes foster dad, but foster mom is her favorite person and primary caregiver. The vet prescribed Trazadone to calm her, and it helped. Now that Bailey has been in foster care a little while, she’s having much less anxiety and only needs those meds occasionally. She will do best in a home where she would not be left alone for long periods.

Bailey likes that foster mom works from home, because she always wants to be near her main person. But really, she likes everyone – other dogs, cats, adults and children. Because of her previous back injury, care should be taken when lifting her. Therefore, we do not recommend a home with young children or toddlers who may not understand that they should not try to pick her up. She does fine with a few steps off the back deck, and she knows how to use doggie steps to get up on the couch. Much of the day, you’ll find her napping on the couch, and she sleeps through the night in foster parents’ bedroom.

She loves her foster family – mom, dad, daughter, small dog, and two cats. She enjoys playtime with the other dog and the cats. Foster mom takes the dogs on a walk, and Bailey doesn’t pull at all. When foster mom takes her daughter to school, Bailey likes to ride along. She gets excited to go in the car and is an excellent passenger. She goes straight to and from the car without being asked – like it’s her duty to make sure the daughter gets to and from school each day. Bailey loves to be included in family routines, and we believe she will be a devoted member of her forever family.

Bailey is being fostered in Overland Park, KS. Her ideal forever home would be one with a fenced yard and someone home most of the day. Another dog in the house would be great, and she is fine with cats. Older children who know how to be gentle are fine.

If you can provide Bailey with a loving home and you think you might be the right person or family for her, please fill out our online application (if you have not done so already) and then contact Deborah Barnes at deborah@smarnes.com to let her know of your interest. Applicants who live within a reasonable driving distance of the metro Kansas City area will be considered. Flynn in Diberville, MS

Hi! My name is Flynn, and I was born in December 2023. I’m a fun-loving, energetic redhead looking for a family that is playful and loves kisses.

You’re going to fall in love with my cute face, soft fur, and floppy ears. Not only that, but I am very sweet according to everyone who meets me. I’m a quick study, and I’m learning how to sit before my food bowl is set down and how not to jump on people. I’m getting pretty good at both of those. I’m also potty trained and will retreat to my kennel when asked to do so.

I really like having a big selection of toys and enjoy playing one-sided fetch with my toys. That’s where you throw it, I go get it and bring it back to show you. But I’ll run away before you can get it.

Watching a sad movie? My empathetic side will come through, and I will give you a hug and then lay on your lap until you run out of tissues. I’ll be your very best friend because I’m very affectionate. I’m always up for playtime or a nap.

My ideal home is one where my humans are around to keep me company most of the day. I would also love to have another gentle, playful fur sibling about the same size as me to play with so that I do not get bored.

I had an ear infection when I first came into rescue, but it’s been treated and cleared up nicely. Otherwise, I am a very healthy and happy little fella. I’m always smiling because my teeth are nice and sparkly, and I’ll show them off to you every chance I get. I’m also up to date on my vaccinations and heartworm preventative, and I weigh 23 pounds.

If you think you would be a great fit and can provide Flynn with everything he needs, please submit an application, if you haven’t already done so. Then reach out to TJ Mareno at Rescue4Life01@gmail.com to let her know of your interest. Applicants within a reasonable driving distance will be considered.

Harley in New Bern, NC

Let’s just say it: Looking for an Angel to save an Angel with broken wings.

Meet Harley, an 11-year-old male tricolor Cavalier. He came into rescue suffering from serious neglect. His fortunes changed instantly upon arrival, as his matted hair was trimmed, he was treated for a skin and ear infections, treated for fleas and intestinal parasites, and cleared for a much-needed dental. He was started on meds to treat Dry Eye Syndrome in his left eye and heart medication for a mid-grade murmur.

While all of that has certainly helped him feel better, Harley suffers from arthritis and joint problems. He wants to join his new tribe in foster care for walks, so we go out, but he’s unable to even make it around the block, so we return leaving the others to continue on without him.

Like most of his senior homies, long naps make up most of the day. He’s an enthusiastic but slow eater. Afterwards he’ll lay at your feet, maybe with one of his long gazes toward you, just oozing his appreciation.

Steps are a challenge, two or three are doable but take a moment or two to work up to. Put some at the sofa and you’ll find him next to you, ever so gently laying his head on your thigh. You can’t help but feel the love and gratitude he offers for rescuing him from his former neglect. It’s a truly special and incomparable love.

Harley will excel in any home that can afford him the patience and companionship he deserves. He gets along well with dogs and cats alike. This sweet boy is the epitome of a “go with the flow” personae. Car rides and any associated low-intensity adventures are lots of fun. Even with his lumbering mobility issues, he’ll make the effort to follow you if you’re gone for more than a few minutes, naptimes excluded of course.

In his foster home, he shares some deluxe crate accommodations for bedtime, yet we suspect he’d love the big bed if allowed. Harley is a good sleeper too. An extra hour in bed? Why not?!

And he’s reliable about his business as well, just another effort to please you. A fenced yard is always desirable but might not be required as this fellow is anything but a runner. Most of all, Harley deserves a calm environment with someone home with him most of the time to share his time and love with.

Many of us are certain that there’s bonus go-to-heaven points awarded for rescuing dogs, especially special needs seniors, but the real reward is the singularly remarkable bond of devotion that a pup like Harley bestows.

If you think you just might be Harley’s Angels, fill out the application online (if you haven’t previously). Potential adopters that meet the criteria and live within a reasonable driving distance to New Bern, NC should then email NC Rescue Coordinator Angie at NCCavalierrescuemom@gmail.com noting your interest.

Sukie in Okemos, MI

Meet Sukie an adorable and beautiful female ruby Cavalier.

Sukie is five years old, born 12/22/2019,  and came into rescue when her previous family started growing and she could not accept being anything less than number one in the home. She is a diva in the making!

Sukie loves her long run/walks (2-4 miles each day) and being with her foster Cavaliers and family. She loves attention and responds well to praise, like any good diva. Sukie especially adores her foster dad and she’s a real flirt. Sukie has settled in well at her foster home, quickly learning new tricks for praise & treats. She is extremely attentive, looking for cues from her foster family, suggesting what adventure is next. If it involves her, she’s all in! She loves traveling in a car and has great manners. Sukie has boundless energy but can settle down and snuggle like a good little Cavalier when needed.

In her foster home, Sukie spends most of her day alongside her foster mom who is home most of the time and accompanies Sukie on her daily extended walks. Her foster mom reports that Sukie is a wonderful companion, a true shadow dog!

When her people leave the home, Sukie shows signs of separation anxiety and will bark for a few minutes when left behind. In her foster home this anxiety has been lessened by leaving Sukie out of a crate and in the company of the other Cavaliers in the home. She is crate trained but finds more comfort in lying by the back door with the other Cavaliers until the people come home.

Sukie tries to be the protector of the home and leader of the pack while on walks. She is very vocal on her intent to protect (squirrel and big dog warning). Sukie will also sound the alarm when she hears sounds outdoors. And if a stranger comes up, she will growl. A few words of reassurance from the foster family helps Sukie warm up and get comfortable when she is meeting new people.

Sukie is house broken and will let you know when it is time to go out. She sleeps through the night near the foster family’s bed.

Like a typical Cavalier, Sukie wants to be with her people all the time. She would do best in a family with someone home most of the time to continue her long, daily walks and to easy her separation anxiety. In her previous home, she did not get along with the small children in the growing family. So, her new family should not have young children. She would love a small canine sibling, if the dog is willing to let Sukie be the alpha. She does not know how to play with toys but prefers direct interactions with the family.

It is best that she is not placed in an apartment or condo, due to her barking.

Sukie is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines. She received a clean bill of health at her recent vet visit.

If you are looking for a beautiful, smart & loving little female companion, then Sukie is the one for you! She has been a real sweetheart while in foster care and we know that love will further blossom in her fur-ever home.

Please complete our online application (if you haven’t already) and then send an email to June Kirchgatter at June.cavaliers@gmail.com to let her know that you are interested in Sukie. We will only consider applicants that are home during the day and have no children under age 14.
