Ollie in Northridge, CA

Here is the pup with his new family…

Meet Ollie, a handsome ten-month-old Blenheim Cavalier, fostered in Northridge. Ollie was born on October 6, 2024. He is a petite boy but still growing, weighing in at just twelve pounds.

Ollie came into rescue because of his owner’s illness. Since arriving in foster care, Ollie has blossomed from a shy guy to a playful, very silly pup. He initially found comfort with the female humans in the home, and has taken a bit longer to warm up to the males. He is not necessarily a typical Velcro Cavalier, but he does love to snuggle right up close for bedtime.

Ollie is in excellent health. While in foster care, his neuter procedure included a Cryptorchid surgery for the one testicle that had not descended. He had two puppy teeth removed that did not fall out when his adult teeth came in. Ollie is now microchipped.

Ollie likes his walks and playtime. He would benefit from having a dog of similar temperament to play with.

Ollie delights in visiting with his foster Grandma and her four pups to frolic with. He is eager to learn, and will benefit from continued basic training to become a well-mannered and confident companion.

Inside the house, Ollie is pretty close to perfect. He has not had any accidents and follows a routine of two daily walks, morning and evening, with potty breaks every three to four hours in the yard. His foster family keeps an eye out for signs that he needs to go out, and he’s been doing great with this schedule. Ollie has occasionally marked inside, but he was recently neutered is working on control with guidance.

Ollie is small and curious, so he needs a fenced in yard that doesn’t allow his tiny body to fit through any gaps. He chews all his toys and is very much in that mouthing stage of puppyhood, so only dog-savvy older children will be considered.

Foster Mom reports he has had no issue with chewing anything other than what is appropriate. He is a sweet, playful, energetic puppy and will bring joy and laughter to your home.

Ollie would be best suited to a family who is willing to continue his training, and can make sure that he gets adequate exercise. Ollie’s new family should work with him to continue his good behavior skills. He is at an ideal age for beginner level obedience training through private or group lessons.

If you are up for providing Ollie with lots of love, and you live within a comfortable driving distance of Northridge, please complete our online adoption application if you have not already. Simon in Chicago, IL

Simon is a 3-year-old Blenheim Cavalier born 4-1-22 . He is a sweet, curious, smart, and tall boy!

He was at a breeding facility for the first two years of his life. He started showing signs of not being well and was given away to his first home to try to figure out what was going on. He continued to lose weight over the next year, and the owner reached out to Cavalier Rescue USA to help as the medical expenses were too much.

After blood work it was determined that Simon has Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, known as EPI. When you have EPI, your body can’t digest food and absorb nutrients properly because your pancreas isn’t making enough enzymes. Fortunately EPI is a manageable condition! Simon takes a pancreatic enzyme supplement powder sprinkled on his food and gobbles it right up. He will require this supplement for the rest of his life. The enzymes are about $100-$200 per month depending on where they are purchased.

Simon’s health has greatly improved since being on the enzymes! He has gone from 13lbs to 18lbs in only a few months! His stools are still a little softer than we would like them to be so we are adding in a daily probiotic in hopes this will help and the cost of this is minimal. Additionally Simon had 9 teeth pulled during a much needed dental procedure – don’t worry he has plenty more and can eat food, treats and bones with no problems.

Simon would be best in a home where he will have plenty of attention and time with his person or people. He does not like when his person leaves the house so he will need some extra care and patience working with him to help him with this extreme separation anxiety. He is currently on anti-anxiety medication to help manage his separation anxiety. The cost of these meds is minimal.

He LOVES going places with his people. His foster family lives in a very dog friendly community so he has been enjoying going shopping, out to eat, and anywhere his foster family goes!

Separation anxiety is common to see in a dog that has been through what Simon has been through. Due to his rough beginning he does not like to be in a kennel- ideally he would not need to use one and would have a room or safe space for him to be when he is home alone.

Simon prefers to be as close as possible to his person and prefers to sleep in his dog bed next to his foster family’s bed with space to roam. He is reliably house trained but will still need to learn his forever family’s routine and may take some time to adjust in his new home.

He does well with other dogs both on leash and in the home  and would benefit from having another friendly confident dog in the house to learn from and ease his anxiety. He has not been exposed to cats but based on his interest in all smaller animals and the interest of trying to eat them  – a cat free house would be best. He definitely has the Cavalier hunting instinct!  He enjoys long walks and has good leash etiquette. He would love to take in all the animals while on walks, relaxing at the park or in a yard. He is food motivated but is polite when he is told no.

He is still learning how to be a dog in many ways, after all he was in a kennel for most of his life. He would love to learn new tricks and commands and does great with kids!

If you feel like Simon might be a good match for you, please complete our online application, if you have not already done so, then email Meg Hutson Eisenmenger at Cavalierrescuemeg@gmail.com  to let her know of your interest.

Gibby in Plymouth, MI

Here is Gibby with his new family…

Energetic, friendly, and loving. That sums up this 4-year old Blenheim male, Gibby. He was given to Cavalier Rescue USA when his owner became sick and was no longer able to give Gibby the attention he needs. Gibby likes all people and gets along well with the other Cavaliers in his foster home.

He is used to having his people home a lot and demonstrates separation anxiety when his foster mom leaves the room or home. Gibby also gets anxious when there is a change in routine, especially when he visits the vet. To help Gibby relax while in foster care, he has been taking a calming CBD twice a day.

He enjoys fetching a ball in the yard, going on walks, and then snuggling on the couch with his people. He also enjoys a high perch on the couch or at the window to monitor the yard. He is good at spotting squirrels! Same goes for cats, so he will not do well in a feline-friendly home. While on walks, Gibby can bark at other dogs. So he needs a family who is willing to work with him while walking. We think he would greatly benefit from a long walk every day to help burn off some of his energy.

Gibby has good house manners, not having had any accidents in the home while in foster care.

He does a great job sleeping through the night in his crate, as long as it’s next to his foster mom’s bed. He also stays in the crate when his foster mom leaves the house for short periods of time. But he will bark for awhile when she leaves the home, so he should not be placed in a condo or apartment.

His foster mom works from home, so he spends much of the day on a dog bed next to her desk or following her around the house. He’s a good shadow dog! Gibby does well where there is a routine, so he can anticipate what will happen. He is definitely a people-dog! It is important that his new family is home during the day to help minimize his anxiety. Gibby is a good travel companion and does well in the car.

The ideal fur-ever home for Gibby is one where there is someone home during the day. He would do best with a family that has another small, young dog to provide stimulation and to help ease his anxiety when the family leaves the home.

Gibby received a clean bill of health from the vet, is up to date on his vaccinations, has been micro-chipped, and is neutered.

If you are home during the day, have a regular routine in a calm home, and another small dog in your family, please complete the online application. (No need to complete another application, if you already have one in our database.) Be sure to send an email to June Kirchgatter at June.cavaliers@gmail.com to let her know you are interested in Gibby. We will only consider applicants that are home during the day.
