Lady in San Jose, CA

Here she is with her new family….

Hi, I’m Lady, an exuberant 1 year old playful little Blenheim Cavalier. While I do enjoy snuggles, my favorite thing to do is play with anyone that is willing and available. I haven’t yet learned to fetch balls or tug on toys but I play a lot with my foster siblings, including a dog savvy cat. I also love chew toys of all sorts and can often be found happily chewing on an antler, bone, or other chew toy. I would love to have a playmate that’s willing to play with me, so my ideal home has another small, young dog in it that loves to play too! I’d also do best with someone who is home most of the time, so I can get a lot of potty breaks and walks! I’m good with new people and while I may be a little shy at first, it doesn’t take long for me to warm up and ask for attention and playtime.

When I came to my foster home I was a very sick puppy and had just finished treatment for kennel cough and pneumonia. I had to be isolated because I had a hacking cough that seemed to last forever and a bad case of worms and parasites. After several rounds of tests and treatments my cough and my fecal tested clean and I had my spay surgery too! Yay! While I appear to be perfectly healthy now, there is a chance that I will be more susceptible to respiratory illnesses in the future, so the vet recommends regular immunization shots.

I absolutely LOVE to go on walks. My foster mom takes me out for a walk nearly every day for about an hour, but I think she just wants to wear me out so I’ll snuggle. One hour is usually enough walking, but I’d be happy with going out more often or for longer, I’ve still got a lot of puppy energy. I like to pull at the leash and run around checking out smells at first, but I am learning slowly how to behave on a leash, I do calm down after a while.

Since I am a puppy I’m still a little naughty. If something moves quickly or runs I may bark and chase it. This includes outdoor cats, lizards, squirrels, and birds, bugs, you know how it goes.

I’m generally good with both my crate training and my house training. I sleep in my crate overnight and don’t have issues as long as I potty before bed and immediately when I get up. I do go outside when asked to and will do my business, provided I don’t get distracted.  I haven’t yet learned to ask to go outside, so I may have accidents, especially at first because I am still learning. I also have a small issue with submissive peeing when playing, especially if my playmate is too rough or scares me. If I’m put outside at regular intervals I rarely have issues though.

I’m learning basic commands. I’ve got ‘sit down’ pretty well, but I still struggle with ‘stay’ and ‘come’. It’s so hard to stay still, everything is so exciting and it’s really hard to ‘come’ when there are so many interesting things to explore. I am looking for a home where I can continue my training with positive reinforcement and gentle, patient interactions while I figure it out.

When I finally wind down I’m a precious little bundle of cuddles and I’ll even let you hold me upside down like a baby. If my humans aren’t available for snuggles, I find a place to curl up in as near as possible.  My favorite spots are usually places I jump up to, like a chair or couch. If I’m not allowed on your furniture, then I’m not a good fit for you. I like to snuggle with my foster siblings (if they’ll let me), even my cat playmate. I’ve actually figured out how to carefully curl up with him in our favorite chair without waking him up. Because I’m so good at jumping, a secure yard and fence is necessary.

If I sound like just the right Cavalier for you please let us know by completing an online application (if you haven’t already) and then contacting Jessica Ford smalldogbath@gmail.com. I’m looking forward to finding my forever family.

Lucy and Birdie in Trophy Club, TX

Here are the pups with their new family…

Lucy and Birdie are sweet, bonded girls who have never been apart. Birdie is a 7-year-old (5/7/2016) Tricolor and Lucy is an 11-year-old (3/2/2013) Blenheim. The girls came into rescue due to no fault of their own when their family could no longer give them the attention they deserve.

They are kind and sweet with people & other dogs. Birdie is a little shy at first but then she warms right up and is your typical Velcro girl who follow you everywhere. They are trained to use a doggie door or (when none exists) they will bark at the back door to let you know that it is time to go out.

They have had no accidents in foster care. They put themselves to bed in their crates at night when they are tired at about 8pm and you do not hear a peep until the morning. They also like to travel in the car. They do pull some on the leash so will need a bit of work on leash manners. These are wonderful girls who will make a family incredibly happy.

Birdie is such a sweet and affectionate girl.  She likes to sit in laps and wants to go where you go. She likes to smell a treat for a second before eating it and is very delicate. She weighs 20 lbs and is a healthy girl with a perfect heart. She does have luxating patellas but is having no issues and the vet does not recommend any treatment. She is current on vaccines and is on heartworm preventative.

Lucy is a funny girl full of personality. She likes her naps but if she wants something she will let you know. If it is past 5pm and you have not given her dinner, she will bark at you. Same if she has to go potty or just wants a treat. She loves food and gobbles it down fast. She is more independent and likes her treats and some pets and then will go to a nice bed or her crate to nap. Lucy weighs 20 lbs. She is hard of hearing but sure will perk up if she hears you in the kitchen! She has a grade 1 heart murmur which is very good for her age. She also has a little arthritis and a luxating patella on her left side but she gets around very well and does not act her age. The vet recommends a joint supplement. She is current on vaccines and is on heartworm prevention.

These sweet & loving girls will make a family so happy. We would like a home for them with a fenced yard and low alone time. They really enjoy being out in the yard and laying outside on a pretty day.

If you think Birdie and Lucy would be a great fit for your family, please contact Shelby at shelbynfields@gmail.com to express your interest. Please also ensure you have an application on file if you have not already filled one out.

Barkley in Little Rock, AR

Barkley’s journey to our rescue wasn’t due to abandonment but rather a loving transition from one home to another. His previous owners entrusted him to us to ensure he finds his perfect forever family.

Barkley arrived with a luxurious full coat, unfortunately severely matted, which required a haircut. But don’t worry, his coat will grow back, and in the meantime, he maintains his charm and charisma!

Barkley embodies canine relaxation and charm. With his gentle demeanor and endearing personality, he effortlessly steals hearts wherever he goes. He enjoys indulging in luxurious naps, leisurely strolls, and joyous car rides, reveling in life’s simple pleasures.

At ten pounds overweight, Barkley may have a bit of extra fluff, but it only adds to his cuddly charm. Despite this, his spirit remains undeterred, and he eagerly engages in play and exploration with enthusiasm.

Barkley is impeccably house-trained and prefers to keep all four paws firmly on the ground, abstaining from furniture-bound adventures. His laid-back nature and well-mannered disposition make him a joy to be around.

Barkley thrives in the company of adults and older children, radiating infectious positivity to all fortunate enough to cross his path. He has shown some food aggression and jealousy towards other pets so we think it is best that he is an only dog.

Barkley seeks a forever home that mirrors his laid-back disposition, with a family who appreciates the art of relaxation yet embraces occasional adventures. If you’re looking for a devoted friend whose unwavering loyalty and affectionate nature will enrich your life, Barkley is the perfect match for you.

If you can provide Barkley with the perfect home, please complete our online application, if you haven’t already done so, and then email Whitney Barron wbarronp@gmail.com and let her know of your interest. Only applicants within driving distance to Little Rock will be considered.

Mayah in Lebanon, IN

Here is Mayah with her new family…

Mayah is now doing very well on leash. The main thing to know about this sweet pup  is that she will need time, patience and love to warm to a new family. She has deep trust issues (well earned!) and is wary of people, but she comes out of her shell daily. She is just an ideal dog. She is quiet as a mouse except when her foster mom is making her breakfast and even then it’s just a lil happy growly-bark for 30 seconds. She’s finally starting to grab a toy every once in a while.  She is so deserving of love!

Mayah is about 6 years old, and is a beautiful Blenheim Cavalier, born about 6/2018. She came into care as a breeder surrender. Mayah has spent most of her life in a kennel having puppies, but she is learning to be part of a family!

Since coming into foster, her personality has slowly but surely started to come out. Mayah is a very laid-back, calm girl. She loves, loves, loves her crate. She absolutely needs to have access to a crate in her new home. Her crate provides her with a sense of safety and comfort and calm. Mayah is working on spending more and more time hanging out with people or sleeping on the couch next to her foster dog friends. The activity of our home goes on around her and she exists happily within that.

She has a lot of anxiety in situations outside our home. Mayah’s new family will need to be patient and understanding with her and understand that most of a “family” world is completely new to her. Everyday household things no longer stress her out, but sometimes sudden things still spook her.

Mayah is more than happy to potty outside but is still working on how to alert us that she would like to go out. She had lived in an indoor/outdoor kennel, so she didn’t learn to alert people to her needs. She follows the other dogs out and happily potties outside but will occasionally have an accident if not given the opportunity to go out. Her new home will need to continue to reinforce positive potty habits, and have patience with her, as she is just realizing that the humans want to know to let her out!

While Mayah has a lot of anxiety, you simply could not ask for a sweeter dog. She is quiet and calm all the time, rarely barks or whines at all, gets along well with our other dogs. We have hardly heard a peep from her. She is patient with all things, even things she does not enjoy. She is literally SUCH a good girl. Everyone who meets her develops a soft spot for her. The desire to give Mayah everything she’s missed out on is so strong. She has developed an adorable wiggle-dance to express her happiness, especially in the morning when we wake up.

Mayah doesn’t seem to care to run off but would be best in a fenced yard or with someone able to stay out with her when pottying. Mayah has done very well with children and other dogs, but we do not know about cats. She is extremely non-reactive to pretty much everything.

The vet has given her a glowing report.  She is at a healthy weight at 18 lbs and her heart sounds great. Mayah recently had her teeth cleaned and had 9 teeth removed. She will need to have dental care going forward with teeth brushing and dental treats to keep her pearly whites shining.

She would be a perfect companion for someone who works from home and would like a friend to sit with them. She’ll also do best in a home that has another dog.
