Georgie in Columbus, OH

Hi!  I’m Georgie!

I’m a 6-7 year old tricolor boy given to rescue when my people split up. I love to be outside and explore nature. I am happiest taking a long meandering morning walk through the woods or park, then taking a long snooze with you at my side afterward. As sweet as I am handsome, I am also a very good boy. I sleep all night in my crate, do my business outside when I should, know my basic commands, and tolerate your having to leave me without complaint (although I would always rather go with you), and greet you so warmly when you return.

I do love my food! And your food! And the other dog’s food! I currently weigh 30 pounds. Diets are so hard, but the vet says I should lose a few pounds so I am trying. My old vet said I had an umbilical hernia and a grade 1 heart murmur but my foster mom’s vet says there’s no murmur, so go figure.

I’m pretty independent, and happy to do my own thing as long as you are near. I get along great with the other dog in my foster mom’s house, and all the kids in the neighborhood pet me and tell me how cute I am.

My ideal home would give me the chance to run and play outside frequently. I love adventure and being included in activities. I don’t need someone home all the time, but I don’t think I would like being alone all day either. Somewhere in between would be just fine.

Biscuit in Plymouth, MI

Biscuit and Gravy! Meet Biscuit, a happy 4-year old male Blenheim in good health and housetrained. What’s the Gravy? He loves to snuggle and hang out on the couch with his people. Who could ask for anything more?

Biscuit came into rescue after his family made the difficult decision to surrender him because of his resource guarding. In a home with young children and another young dog, this was no longer a great fit for Biscuit.

Biscuit gets along well with the other Cavaliers in his foster home. (They range in age from three to eight years.) No high value toys are present in the home. Biscuit eats in his crate. These are all steps that have prevented any acts of resource guarding. But because of his history, Biscuit will not be placed in a home with children younger than ten.

Biscuit spends the day sitting in the lap of or very near his foster Mom (who works from home) and hanging out with the other Cavaliers. He enjoys playing fetch and exploring the fenced yard. But he mostly likes to snuggle. When his foster Mom says “TV room,” Biscuit is the first of the dogs on the couch.

Biscuit has excellent housebreaking skills, and has not had any accidents in his foster home. He does well on the leash and gets his business done outdoors pretty quickly.

Biscuit is crate-trained. He goes into his crate when his foster Mom has to run errands. He also sleeps in his crate next to his foster Mom’s bed. Biscuit shows some signs of separation anxiety, barking when his foster Mom leaves the house or the room. To help minimize this, Biscuit will only be considered for applicants who are home during the day and night to keep Biscuit company.

When new people have come to visit, Biscuit has been happy to sit on their laps too. (It may take him a few minutes to warm up to new people.) He is up-to-date on his vaccinations, has been microchipped and neutered.

If you are home most of the day and live within a four to five hour drive of Plymouth, please fill out our online application if you have not already done so. Then email June at June.cavaliers@gmail.com to let us know of your interest in this little bundle of love.

Titus is initially shy but quickly becomes a devoted companion, while Denny is an instant friend, showering everyone with affection. They are wonderful with other small dogs and young children, making them an ideal addition to a loving family.

Phoebe and Pearl in Logansport, IN

Phoebe and Pearl are a bonded pair. Phoebe is an 11-year-old Blenheim, and Pearl is a 10-year-old and black and white. Both girls were in rough shape when they came into rescue, but they are now thriving in their foster home. They have wonderful, sweet personalities. They are a relaxed and affectionate pair who just want a comfortable and loving home for the rest of their days.

Both girls spend most of their time napping in their favorite spots. Phoebe absolutely loves sleeping on the back of the couch, especially if she can rest against someone’s shoulders. Pearl prefers sleeping on the couch next to other dogs. Both enjoy spending time with their foster family’s other Cavaliers. Neither of the girls are particularly active or enjoy playing with toys, but they will quite happily cuddle and enjoy a few treats.

Phoebe and Pearl have both had some health challenges. Both were significantly underweight when they came into rescue, but they have now made it to a much healthier weight. Also, both girls have grade 2 mitral valve disease. Neither need heart medication at this time, but they will need to visit the cardiologist every six to nine months to check for progression.

They are up to date with their vaccinations, and they take a monthly flea and heartworm preventative. Phoebe had a dental and lost several teeth. Pearl does not have any teeth.

Pearl has diabetes insipidus. This is not the usual type of diabetes that causes issues with blood sugar. Instead, with diabetes insipidus, the body does not produce a hormone needed to regulate the retention of water, and it causes excessive drinking and urination. Pearl is now being treated for her diabetes insipidus, and her drinking and urination have improved significantly. She will have to take medication (eye drops) for this condition for the rest of her life. This medication costs approximately $45 a month.

Additionally, Pearl has a broken jaw. The veterinarian believes her jaw has been broken for many years, and, at this point, it does not bother her or require treatment. She is able to eat without a problem. Pearl also hears very little.

Both girls are still working on housetraining. Now that Pearl is being treated for diabetes insipidus, she is doing much better. While her excessive urination has drastically improved, she still needs to go out more often than average.

When they first arrived, Phoebe did not like walking on grass, but, with encouragement, she has been doing better with going into the backyard. Unlike Phoebe, Pearl enjoys walking around the yard at her own pace, so a fenced yard will be important for her. Their new family will have to be able to take them out regularly and continue their housetraining.

Both girls love being with people and other dogs. They will happily follow you around the house or relax near you. Phoebe has some mild separation anxiety and does not like be separated from Pearl or her human. However, they are fine when home alone for a few hours.

Phoebe and Pearl are wonderful girls who are sweet, affectionate, and laid-back. They have a lot of love to give, and they deserve a fabulous home for the rest of their lives. They would enjoy a home with someone there most of the time, with other small, friendly dogs, and with a safely fenced yard.

Harley in New Bern, NC

Let’s just say it: Looking for an Angel to save an Angel with broken wings.

Meet Harley, an 11-year-old male tricolor Cavalier. He came into rescue suffering from serious neglect. His fortunes changed instantly upon arrival, as his matted hair was trimmed, he was treated for a skin and ear infections, treated for fleas and intestinal parasites, and cleared for a much-needed dental. He was started on meds to treat Dry Eye Syndrome in his left eye and heart medication for a mid-grade murmur.

While all of that has certainly helped him feel better, Harley suffers from arthritis and joint problems. He wants to join his new tribe in foster care for walks, so we go out, but he’s unable to even make it around the block, so we return leaving the others to continue on without him.

Like most of his senior homies, long naps make up most of the day. He’s an enthusiastic but slow eater. Afterwards he’ll lay at your feet, maybe with one of his long gazes toward you, just oozing his appreciation.

Steps are a challenge, two or three are doable but take a moment or two to work up to. Put some at the sofa and you’ll find him next to you, ever so gently laying his head on your thigh. You can’t help but feel the love and gratitude he offers for rescuing him from his former neglect. It’s a truly special and incomparable love.

Harley will excel in any home that can afford him the patience and companionship he deserves. He gets along well with dogs and cats alike. This sweet boy is the epitome of a “go with the flow” personae. Car rides and any associated low-intensity adventures are lots of fun. Even with his lumbering mobility issues, he’ll make the effort to follow you if you’re gone for more than a few minutes, naptimes excluded of course.

In his foster home, he shares some deluxe crate accommodations for bedtime, yet we suspect he’d love the big bed if allowed. Harley is a good sleeper too. An extra hour in bed? Why not?!

And he’s reliable about his business as well, just another effort to please you. A fenced yard is always desirable but might not be required as this fellow is anything but a runner. Most of all, Harley deserves a calm environment with someone home with him most of the time to share his time and love with.

Many of us are certain that there’s bonus go-to-heaven points awarded for rescuing dogs, especially special needs seniors, but the real reward is the singularly remarkable bond of devotion that a pup like Harley bestows.

If you think you just might be Harley’s Angels, fill out the application online (if you haven’t previously). Potential adopters that meet the criteria and live within a reasonable driving distance to New Bern, NC should then email NC Rescue Coordinator Angie at NCCavalierrescuemom@gmail.com noting your interest.
