Bandit in Portland, OR

Meet Bandit – A Gentle Soul Ready for His Forever Home

Bandit is a handsome male black and tan Cavalier born on April 20, 2022. Raised in a loving home but surrendered due to his owner’s health challenges, he is ready to find a new family to share his affection with.

While Bandit can be a little shy at first, he is incredibly devoted once he warms up. He is good with people and other dogs and has previously lived peacefully with a cat. He is calm and curious with strangers, though his shyness sometimes prevails. He recently excelled at a vet visit, displaying great confidence, and he rarely barks except when it is time to eat.

Bandit currently lives with two other dogs in his foster home and is doing beautifully. Although he was never left alone in his previous home, he settles nicely when his foster family steps out, likely comforted by his canine companions. While his behavior with children is unknown, his easygoing temperament suggests he may do well with respectful introductions.

He is discovering the joy of walking for fun and would thrive in a patient home that will continue to build his confidence. He is also playful and enjoys a game of fetch. Bandit has never been crate trained and prefers sleeping on the couch rather than in a bed.

Completely housebroken, Bandit is very agreeable when asked to go outside. He will stand by the door when he needs to go but does not always signal otherwise. Notably, he has not had a single accident during his transition into foster care.

Bandit is a healthy, tall boy weighing 28 pounds (though his vet recommends losing a few pounds). He is currently on a special chicken-free, low-fat diet due to potential food sensitivities and a past episode of suspected pancreatitis. His vet believes this diet may also help manage his history of ear infections. Because he was fed table food in the past, he will need continued training to curb begging. Bandit is very smart and will thrive with consistency and structure.

If you can offer Bandit the patience and love he needs to continue growing, and live near the Greater Portland area, please complete our online adoption application (if you haven’t previously) then email Cindy at cseakastner@gmail.com to let her know that you are interested in adopting Bandit.

Rex and Rey in Red Wing, MN

Meet Rex and Rey, bonded 6 year old Tricolor brothers. These sweet, loving, gentle dogs would love to be adopted together.

They came to rescue as owner surrenders.  Rex and Rey were clearly provided with wonderful care and love. The dogs’ temperament reflects that. They are both sweet snugglers with a very calm attitude.

Both dogs are neutered, very well crate trained in one crate, walk happily on the leash with a harness, and love sniffing around the fenced yard, which is a must for them. They are great with strangers and friends. The dogs adjusted to their foster home within days. They are not destructive and have caused no damage at all in the foster home. Toys with stuffing may not last, however, as they do enjoy removing the stuffing and the squeaker whenever possible. They are fully housetrained.

Rex and Rey know some of the basic commands: sit, stay, treat, outside. They love their daily walks, have great energy, are friendly and have good appetites. They both are in good health. The dogs are very happy following their humans around the house and curling up with them whenever they sit even for a moment.

Rey has a brown spot on his nose and weighs in at 22 pounds. He is absolutely the sweetest dog you’ve ever met. He adores his toys. You rarely see him without one. He does not bark.

Rex is the bigger of the two dogs, coming in at 25 pounds. He is a furry bundle of love. A calm dog who loves to snuggle his humans, Rex can be the more vocal of the two. He barks to alert that he needs to go outside, and sometimes when outside he will bark at other dogs or animals. With some positive training, that behavior could be eliminated.

Whatever good you can say about dogs, these boys got it!

If you think your home would be a good fit with these two bundles of love, please complete our online application if you have not done so already, and let the regional coordinator, Gail Jansen know at cavalierrescueusawimn@gmail.com.

Marco in University Place, WA

Meet Marco! Marco is an 8-year-old Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is the definition of a devoted companion. This sweet boy was an owner surrender, and it’s clear he was well loved and well cared for with his excellent house manners and a heart full of affection.

Marco absolutely loves the comforts of home. The couch and the bed are his favorite places, especially if they’re shared with his person. He wants nothing more than to be right by your side, whether you’re relaxing on the sofa or settling in for the night. If you’re looking for a true “Velcro Cavalier,” Marco is your guy.

Marco’s love of a bed and his people is best evidenced by his care taken to move and carry his dog bed to be in closest proximity to his foster parents while they work from home. Pulling, nesting, and even grabbing it with his teeth, nothing will stop him from being comfy and near the ones he loves.

He has a good energy level for an 8-year-old and loves his 30+ minute daily walks. He walks nicely on leash, though he will need continued guidance to help him curb barking when other dogs pass by. His foster family is working with him using positive reinforcement training, which he loves since it involves treats. Marco is fully potty trained and will go to the back door to let you know when he needs to go outside.

Because he truly prefers having all the attention, Marco would be happiest as the only dog in the home where he can be the center of your universe. He gets along with the foster family’s Cavaliers but will push his way to the front of the pack for attention. While he tends to have a favorite person, he truly loves everyone. He is outgoing and friendly with strangers and happily absorbs their adoration.

Marco is good with children and previously lived with school-aged kids. In his foster home, he is often found snuggling on the couch or bed with the 9-year-old. He prefers affection on his own terms and is not a fan of being hugged and will gently let you know if he’s uncomfortable; respecting his boundaries helps him feel secure and relaxed. He is used to sleeping in a family member’s bed at night and he would be unhappy if he had to sleep anywhere else.

Marco weighs 21 pounds, which is a good weight for him. He is suspected to be deaf, but he is eager to please and responds to some hand signals. He recently saw the cardiologist and has been diagnosed with a grade II/VI heart murmur. Currently, he doesn’t require any medication, and a recheck examination is recommended with the cardiology service in nine months to monitor for progression.

Marco’s new home wish list: gentle dog-savvy children over 5, daily walks, to sleep in the big bed with his family, minimal time alone, and he’d love to be the only dog receiving all of the attention. If your family is a good match for Marco and you live within a 3-hour drive of his foster home, please complete the online application (if you haven’t previously) and email Melissa at happycavaliers04@gmail.com so she knows to consider your application.

Gracie in Shoreline, WA

Everyone, meet Gracie! She is a 3-year-old female spayed Blenheim Cavalier who still retains puppy-like energy and enthusiasm. She came into rescue because her owner felt like she could not meet Gracie’s playtime and exercise needs, in addition to there being some house-training regression after getting another dog.

Gracie has the classic personality traits of a Cavalier. She loves to snuggle and prefers to lay in your lap. She is a nuzzler and a cuddler and will follow you around the house. However, she differs from the average Cavalier in some ways too. She needs a lot of daily activity and mental stimulation, and she has the energy of a puppy. She’s a playful pup that loves to play ball and tug of war. While she is not a good fit for a family who wants a Cavalier that would chill on the couch all day, she will thrive with an active family, especially if they had another playful dog.

Gracie has a love of food, sometimes to a fault. Her enthusiastic personality comes through at mealtime when she reminds you it’s time to eat, where the food is located, and if you’re taking too long. She needs to lose a couple of pounds, so a lower calorie diet and long walks are key. Also, with her puppylike nature and being extremely food motivated, she will eat things she shouldn’t, including paper products and anything that falls on the floor. Her new owner needs to be extremely vigilant about keeping trash cans and human food out of reach. She also will grab items off the coffee table, including pens and food. Anything she gets in her mouth, she will immediately chew and swallow.

Gracie enjoys her leashed walks on quiet streets and trails. Since she loves adventures, her new family needs to be careful opening the front door as she may try to run out. In terms of potty training, she is getting back into it, and with a consistent routine she is good about going outside. She also is crate trained and enjoys sleeping and eating in her crate.

Gracie weighs 24 pounds (her ideal weight is closer to 22), is up to date on her vaccinations, and was recently groomed. She has some medical issues that are not uncommon in the breed, including fly catchers syndrome and flank biting. She is suspected to have Chiari-malformation and syringomyelia, which are the most common neurological conditions in Cavaliers. Her diagnosis is suspected but not confirmed with an MRI scan.

She is under the care of a veterinary neurologist and is currently receiving medications for this condition. She has 3-4 episodes a day, that last from a few seconds to a few minutes. She tends to have episodes closer to when she is due for her medications. Her medications (pregabalin and amantadine) are approximately $50 a month. She also receives over the counter omeprazole daily. She will need to see the neurologist at least twice yearly, as these medications will need to be adjusted over her lifespan as her symptoms change. Besides her neurological issues, she is healthy.

Gracie currently goes to work with her foster mom and the foster family’s two dogs. She is great in an office environment and sleeps most of the day on a dog bed. As long as she can be with you, she is happy and content. If you do need to leave her for a couple of hours, putting her in her crate is ideal. She is great in the car and loves walks, though she needs some more leash training.

If you’re looking for a dog that will make you smile and keep you entertained, Gracie is your girl! She’s a great fit for an adult home where she’ll get plenty of attention, walks, play sessions, snuggles, and adventures too. She would be fine as an only dog, though ideally, she’d have a playful canine companion. She is new with cats, but shows no aggression towards them besides the occasional friendly chase. Please note that Gracie is not a match for families with kids due to eating things she shouldn’t, such as small toys and paper products, and stealing food if given the opportunity.

If you’re interested in adopting Gracie, please complete the online application (if you haven’t done so previously) and email Melissa at happycavaliers04@gmail.com so she knows to consider your application.

Parker in Banning, CA

Meet Parker! This delightful one-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel–Havanese mix has a heart as big as his irresistible smile and soulful brown eyes.

Parker is the perfect blend of affectionate lap dog and playful companion, equally happy cuddling beside you or joining in on the day’s activities.

Parker came into rescue as a breeder release, and was initially skittish and unsure how to accept affection.

Thanks to the patience and love of his foster home, he has made wonderful progress and is truly beginning to understand the joys of being an indoor, cherished family member. Watching his confidence grow has been incredibly rewarding.

Since Parker missed out on early socialization, he thrives on canine companionship and takes great comfort in the presence of other dogs. He will do best in a home with a like-minded canine buddy who can be his best friend and help him build confidence.

In rescue, Parker was neutered, brought up to date on vaccines and microchipped.

True to his Cavalier roots, Parker is gentle, loving, and eager to please.

From his Havanese side, he brings a cheerful spirit and a slightly goofy, fun-loving personality that’s impossible to resist. He enjoys playtime with toys, zooming in the yard with other dogs, and being part of everyday household life, but he also knows how to settle nicely and relax when it’s time to unwind.

Still young, Parker will benefit from continued positive-reinforcement training. He has learned to use a doggy door and is doing well with house training, though an occasional accident may happen as he adjusts to a new environment.

His beautiful coat will require a family committed to regular grooming to keep him comfortable and mat-free.

If you’re looking for a devoted, affectionate, and joyful companion, Parker may be the perfect match. He’s ready to find his forever home …could that be with you?

Parker needs a home with at least one friendly, confident dog for companionship.

He’ll also need a patient family who will continue positive-reinforcement training.

Parker is sure to thrive in a calm, loving environment. He just can’t wait to be included as an indoor, cherished member of his forever family.

If you think Parker would be a welcome addition to your household, please complete our online application if you haven’t done so already. Then email Nanci at nancigordon@gmail.com to let her know of your interest in Parker.
