Ginny in York, PA

Virginia, or Ginny as her foster family and friends call her, is a six year old Blenheim female that was used for breeding at a commercial kennel in Lancaster County. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. She needed the remainder of her teeth pulled so a wet food diet or soft food diet will be needed. She does have a grade 4 murmur but no medication needed at this time.

Ginny is at an ideal weight at 18 lbs. This amazing girl is housebroken and crate trained. She sleeps all night in her crate and will wake up when you do. Ginny hasn’t spent a lot of time taking walks on a leash but, loves free time to run around so a securely fenced in yard would be preferred for her. She does not mind being bathed or groomed. She travels well in a harness with a seatbelt buckle or crated.

Ginny has been around a younger male Cavalier and two cats. She loves the other dog and doesn’t mind the one cat, but is leary of the other cat and for good reason. Loud noises and storms do not faze this girl, but she will bark on occasion when she wants to be let in the door from outside or if she is left in her crate not covered with a blanket. She has been known to ring the bell at the door to be let out.

Ginny loves to meet new people and pets. Snuggles and having chew toys are favorite hobbies for this loving girl. Her age may say six but she acts like a youngster. She does voice her opinion – not by barking, but by whining when she wants to snuggle or your attention.

If you think your family would be a good fit for Ginny, please complete our online application if you haven’t already. Then, please email Melissa MacMullin (cavalierrescueusapa@gmail.com) to let her know  that you are interested and would like to be considered to be her new family.

Matthew in York, PA

Say Hello to Matthew, the happiest boy you’ll ever meet! Matthew is a 9 year old blenheim boy who was well loved by his breeder and came into rescue after her passing. He is now looking for a family with which to spend his golden years.

Don’t let Matthew’s age fool you – he is the definition of a puppy at heart! He enjoys playing with toys, investigating his fenced yard, and even going for short walks on the leash. The rest of the time he is content to be snuggled up with his people on the couch. He will politely “ask” to be picked up by popping his front feet up next to you and wagging his tail.

Matthew is a true “velcro Cavalier” who really loves all people. He is happiest when he is getting all the pets and attention, so a family with someone home most of the time would be ideal. When he does need to be left alone he can become anxious, but being in a crate calms him down and makes him feel safe. Having another calm, submissive canine companion would be helpful as well.

Matthew is in good health for his age. He is a good weight at 17 lbs. He has a healthy heart, is up to date on all vaccines, and recently had neuter and dental procedures done. He does have dry eye disease in his left eye which requires a medicated drop, twice daily, for life. Luckily Matthew is used to the drops and is a very good boy while having them administered.

Matthew is truly quite the catch. His foster family guarantees that he gives back the love he receives tenfold. This sweet gentleman is ready to find the family of his dreams. Could it be you?

Bentley in Tulsa, OK

My name is Bentley. I’m a splendidly coated tricolor Cavalier of seven years. I came from a senior couple that due to their age and mobility limitations, felt the necessity for me to be in a more suitable home.

I chose the name Bentley because of the royal like name, fine and sleek like the prized British auto with meticulous attention to shape, size, and body lines. My coat is short and silky, curly haired ears like a soft shag rug, symmetrical markings for my face, legs and even my cosmopolitan ice cream like tail: white tip, black flag, and tan bottom. Cool whip anyone?

Like the Bentley car, I love to run and go fast! I had a big yard where I used to live so when the door was opened, I let the horsepower in me take off. Foster daddy is working with me on the leash to throttle back a bit of that energy to enjoy some of the scenery as we walk on the sidewalk. Daddy says I’m like Velcro, where he goes, I like to follow him. Laundry, garage, mailbox, dinner plate. When he reads, I snuggle next to his left side and become his arm rest.

I’m doing well on potty training since the vet took out my two main ball bearings, and no accidents, leaks, dripping, marking, or poopers in the house. I’ll go to the back door and whine a bit if I need to let you know, but usually every two or so hours is my time zone. I’m not used to a doggie door, so most of the time I’ll just need you to open the door, let me out, let me do my business, then I come back to the door, and bark at it till you let me back in. I’ll beat you every time to the cookie jar! He fills my tummy tank with premium kibble twice a day, breakfast and 4:30pm dinner. He rewards me for outside potty with two small kibbles each time.

I do have a tendency with car sickness. Short local errand type trips are ok but any longer I need to get out and stretch my legs and tummy or you’ll be seeing what I ate earlier. I was diagnosed with a grade 2 heart murmur that is not severe, but the doctor felt the medication would be helpful to start. I also have dry eyes and need help making tears for my eyes. I will need both of these medications for the rest of my life and the cost of the medication is $120 a month. It is possible that I don’t see perfectly out of one eye as I can’t find you if you are on my left side. I listen for your voice to find you. I am microchipped and on heartworm and flea prevention.

I went to the dentist and had cleaning and polishing done. I don’t chew on any toys, squeaker animals, or socks. I love to rough house with my foster Dad and then get good massages and rubs. Just being next to you makes me so happy and relaxed. Since I am a shadow to my person, I am not happy unless I’m sleeping in his room. Before bedtime I potty one last time then crawl into bed  and doze off quickly. I sleep very well, but during the night I’ll let him know if I need to go out and potty and then return quickly to get back to sleep.

I have plenty more years and miles in me. Any place you go I’m happy to be there with you. I look forward to meeting you and taking a few laps around the hood, doggie track park, back yard, or race to the cookie jar with you soon.

If you think Bentley would fit well in your home and live within a day’s driving distance to Tulsa, please fill out our online application if you haven’t already. Then contact Janis Stauffer, the Oklahoma Coordinator at okstauffer@aol.com to let her know of your interest.

Bentley is a very handsome, well-behaved Cavalier with all of the best traits of the breed!

Marigold in Dallas, TX

Hi, my name is Marigold. I am an older girl looking for someone to love me. Here is my story:

I was found as a stray on the street and taken to a shelter. My foster mom says she doesn’t think I was on the street long and believes I was loved and taken care of most of my life. I had already been spayed and was housebroken when I moved into my foster’s home. I am heartworm negative, which again is proof that someone loved me once upon a time and took great care to make sure I didn’t get heartworms. I was a little thin but it didn’t take long to get my weight back up to where it should be.

I have had several visits to the vet. I have a heart murmur, like so many Cavaliers. I had x-rays of my heart as well as an echocardiogram. Based on the tests, I have a B1 grade heart murmur but do not require any medication. I also had a dental. My breath was a little strong and my foster mom said she thought I would need to have some teeth removed. You know, typical of Cavaliers. The good news was my teeth cleaned up beautifully and I didn’t have any teeth removed! I think I am the only Cavalier in this house with a full set of teeth. The vet said I have teeth like a Lab but I sure don’t look like I have any lab in my bloodlines!

I have also had to visit the Ophthalmologist several times. The not so good news is that I can’t see. I have cataracts that unfortunately cannot be removed, my eyes are a little dry, and I have glaucoma. It doesn’t hold me back from roaming the house. I learned quickly where things are and can even go down a step from the laundry room to the sunporch. I must have had some stairs in my last house because I am really careful when trying to go up or down. My foster mom must give me eye drops and ointment three times a day.

My foster mom has other dogs and I like having other dogs to crawl up next to on the couch. I don’t mind sharing the couch with other dogs but I am fine if I am the only one on the couch.

I am looking for someone to love me and take care of me. I promise I am good in the house as I am housebroken. I only need to be taken outside regularly and actually like to walk around in the grass and soak up the warm sunshine. I would need a fully fenced backyard. I don’t chew on anything like a youngster would. Just want someone to love me. Could you be that someone?

Marigold’s foster mom says: Marigold is a senior with a wonderful disposition. She sleeps most of the day, which is typical of an older girl. She likes to walk around the house and has become familiar with furniture and where things are located and manages to maneuver around well. She also loves to go out into the yard and just walk around. She is definitely a spaniel as her nose is close to the ground sniffing everything that has been in the yard as if it is her job to guard the yard!

If you think you are able to provide all the love and care (and attention) that Marigold deserves, please ensure you have an online application filled out and then email shelbynfields@gmail.com to express your interest. Please refer to the FAQ for additional questions.

Phoebe and Pearl in Logansport, IN

Phoebe and Pearl are a bonded pair. Phoebe is an 11-year-old Blenheim, and Pearl is a 10-year-old and black and white. Both girls were in rough shape when they came into rescue, but they are now thriving in their foster home. They have wonderful, sweet personalities. They are a relaxed and affectionate pair who just want a comfortable and loving home for the rest of their days.

Both girls spend most of their time napping in their favorite spots. Phoebe absolutely loves sleeping on the back of the couch, especially if she can rest against someone’s shoulders. Pearl prefers sleeping on the couch next to other dogs. Both enjoy spending time with their foster family’s other Cavaliers. Neither of the girls are particularly active or enjoy playing with toys, but they will quite happily cuddle and enjoy a few treats.

Phoebe and Pearl have both had some health challenges. Both were significantly underweight when they came into rescue, but they have now made it to a much healthier weight. Also, both girls have grade 2 mitral valve disease. Neither need heart medication at this time, but they will need to visit the cardiologist every six to nine months to check for progression.

They are up to date with their vaccinations, and they take a monthly flea and heartworm preventative. Phoebe had a dental and lost several teeth. Pearl does not have any teeth.

Pearl has diabetes insipidus. This is not the usual type of diabetes that causes issues with blood sugar. Instead, with diabetes insipidus, the body does not produce a hormone needed to regulate the retention of water, and it causes excessive drinking and urination. Pearl is now being treated for her diabetes insipidus, and her drinking and urination have improved significantly. She will have to take medication (eye drops) for this condition for the rest of her life. This medication costs approximately $45 a month.

Additionally, Pearl has a broken jaw. The veterinarian believes her jaw has been broken for many years, and, at this point, it does not bother her or require treatment. She is able to eat without a problem. Pearl also hears very little.

Both girls are still working on housetraining. Now that Pearl is being treated for diabetes insipidus, she is doing much better. While her excessive urination has drastically improved, she still needs to go out more often than average.

When they first arrived, Phoebe did not like walking on grass, but, with encouragement, she has been doing better with going into the backyard. Unlike Phoebe, Pearl enjoys walking around the yard at her own pace, so a fenced yard will be important for her. Their new family will have to be able to take them out regularly and continue their housetraining.

Both girls love being with people and other dogs. They will happily follow you around the house or relax near you. Phoebe has some mild separation anxiety and does not like be separated from Pearl or her human. However, they are fine when home alone for a few hours.

Phoebe and Pearl are wonderful girls who are sweet, affectionate, and laid-back. They have a lot of love to give, and they deserve a fabulous home for the rest of their lives. They would enjoy a home with someone there most of the time, with other small, friendly dogs, and with a safely fenced yard.

If you are interested in adopting Phoebe and Pearl, please complete our online application. Then email Sherry Morgan at morgans817@sbcglobal.net to express your interest.
