Henry in Middletown, PA

Henry is a handsome Blenheim boy who came into rescue when his owner was unable to care for his dietary needs. When Henry came to us, he had a long history of some digestive problems. The first step was to give his tummy a little rest and relaxation and then introduce him to some good rejuvenating probiotics and a new diet. Henry responded well and has had no problems in several months, but he does do better with a fresh food diet. He is a bright, affectionate, and happy boy.

Henry is a tall and long Cavalier, but 21 pounds is a perfect weight for him. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. His teeth are in great shape and he does not mind having them brushed. His heart is sound and full of love.

Henry is a true gentleman. He has been a complete joy in his foster home. He is respectful of the two household female Cavaliers at all times. Henry loves to play fetch with balls and stuffies, and a game of chase is great fun. He is good about sharing and lets the girls win. Afterwards he likes to share a dog bed or the couch for a good snuggle and nap. He loves to eat his food, but never tries to steal from another’s bowl. He is respectful to a cat, although curious.

Henry is always up for a ride in the car, a shopping trip to the toy store, a visit to the Senior Center to meet new friends, or even a trip to see the doggy doctor. He embraces it all with a wagging tail. Henry dances when he sees his leash. He walks nicely on a leash and responds readily to his name when called. Henry knows sit, down, come and stay and he is crate trained. His favorite activity, however, is cuddling with his people. You can take a nice, long nap with this boy!

There is nothing that Henry doesn’t enjoy. Any attention given to him makes him happy, even a bath or brushing or clipping claws. He’s up for anything. He is truly a kind and pleasant gentle dog. He has always had another dog to live with but we believe that he would love to be an only dog also. He will be happy as long as he has someone to be with most of the day and night.

If you think you would be a good family for Henry and live within a reasonable driving distance of Middletown, PA, please let us know! Norman in West Hills, CA

“Stormin’ Norman”, a rhyming nickname frequently used for anyone named Norman who is also seen as a dynamic or forceful personality. Are you ready to add a “fiery redhead” to your life? Meet Norman, a 2-year-old, male, Ruby Cavalier weighing 24 lbs. He was born on October 1st, 2023.

Norman loves everything about life and will follow you anywhere. He’s a counter surfing, toilet drinking, bundle of energy. Yes, he is tall enough to reach a lot of areas you wouldn’t think a Cavalier could. He lives up to his nickname and will need a family that has the time and energy to keep up with him.

Toys are a favorite of his and the more he has, the better. Don’t count on him being tidy with them. They are best spread throughout the house. Norman does enjoy a good game of fetch and will deposit the chosen ball or toy on you, your keyboard, or on the table next to you. Wherever he feels it will most likely get your attention. Norman is very smart and enjoys interactive toys. He also loves to chew and will need a supply of safe things to chew on. Going for walks is right up there with toys. If you happen to pass by his leash and harness, he will grab them and look expectantly at you with those big brown eyes asking if it’s time to go. If you reach for them, he can hardly contain himself he gets so excited.

Norman would love a home where someone is either home with him most of the time or where he gets to go with you on your outings. He prefers not to be left behind. He travels well in the car and enjoys meeting new people. No shyness in this pup. Long walks or hikes would be a plus. Norman walks well on a leash and knows a couple of basic commands. He would benefit from an obedience class or two and would probably do very well in agility. He is fast, watch those open doors. He can jump, clears the back of the couch when he gets the zoomies and, he somewhat understands the concept of table, albeit he’s using the coffee or side tables in the family room. The world is his jungle gym.

Norman does sleep in a crate at night, or when he has to be left alone. Due to his insatiable curiosity, his foster family has found it best not to leave him unattended in the house. While he readily goes into his crate at night, he will put up a fuss if put in the crate during the day. This usually only lasts for a few minutes.

Norman is pretty good about doing his business outside. In his previous home this was all done while on a leash. At his foster home he has a backyard to go out into and has even started giving signals that he needs to go out. He does wear a belly band while in the house due to marking. The marking has been drastically reduced since his neuter and should only continue to get better with oversight and frequent outings.

While in foster care, Norman is recently neutered, microchipped, and had his vaccinations updated. No murmur was detected on auscultation at his vet exam. He did come into rescue with very dry skin and was quite itchy. Switching up his diet and adding supplements is helping but will take some time.

Rusty in Middletown, PA

Meet Rusty, a handsome gentleman looking for his forever home.

If you are a fan of bigger Cavaliers, then Rusty is the boy for you. Rusty is estimated to be about three years old and has all of the typical Cavalier traits, but in a larger, taller package.

Rusty was living with a Good Samaritan who had a soft spot for dogs in need. However, the Samaritan’s landlord was not happy about an extra dog, so rescue was contacted.

While in rescue Rusty was vaccinated, microchipped and was neutered.

Rusty is in good health. His teeth are in great condition as well. He has lost weight since coming into rescue, but at 28 pounds, he should try to lose a couple more pounds to get to his ideal weight.

Rusty is house trained and crate trained. He sleeps in his crate or in a dog bed.

Rusty walks nicely on a leash, especially when a harness is used.

He wasn’t a fan of being brushed at first but he has gotten more tolerant. He is working on learning basic commands.

Sudden movements and loud noises can frighten Rusty, so a home without young children is best for him.

He is a fan of snuggling next to the humans on the couch and often lays across your lap.

Rusty’s favorite thing is a belly rub. He will often flop over and expose his belly and look at you with pleading eyes and hope you get the hint that he is due for a belly rub. And don’t think that once a day is enough… this boy needs belly rubs several times a day!

Rusty is a sweet, snuggly TV watching buddy who is obsessed with belly rubs. If you think that you are a good fit for Rusty and live within a reasonable driving distance of Middletown, PA please let us know. Make sure to have our application completed, if you have not already done so. Then email (please don’t call or text) Melissa at cavalierrescueusapa@gmail.com and ask to be considered as a family for Rusty.

Princeton in Mechanicsburg, PA

Meet Princeton- a happy, energetic 11 month old Ruby puppy. He is tall, lean and handsome (Think John Wayne.), with a beautiful deep chestnut coat. When you think of Princeton- the first word that comes to mind is fun, the second is loving. Princeton came into rescue from a loving family, but the other dog in the home was constantly picking on him. When he  first came into rescue, he was quite timid but quickly blossomed in his foster home. He enjoys the company of other Cavaliers and especially loves to play with his 4 year old foster sister as well as the resident cat.

Princeton is still very much a puppy with puppy energy. He needs regular exercise. Walks are fine, but the absolute joy of his life is fetching the frisbee. Daily play time of 30 to 45 minutes of frisbee fetching and tug-o-war really keeps him well mannered. He is also tall for a Cavalier and has the potential to reach things that he should not have access to. However, he understands the word “No” and normally obeys. He is very smart and is easily trained. He loves his yard and chasing the birds.

Princeton is still timid when meeting new people or going to new locations. He will relax with lots of positive reinforcement. He does bark when he sees people, other dogs and of course, squirrels, but he is working on being redirected. House-training has been going well, but he wears a belly band due to occasional marking. However he was recently neutered and that behavior is decreasing. After all the play and fun time is over, Princeton is happy to curl up in your lap for a nice petting session/snooze. He loves attention and actually can give hugs! He is truly a Velcro dog and is not really happy unless he is by your side.

Princeton weighs 20 lbs. His health is excellent. He is up to date with vaccinations and microchipped. The ideal home for Princeton would be one with someone home most of the time. He is crate trained and will go in his crate for meals and when left alone. Princeton would also enjoy a dog companion to play with as long as it is a calmer dog. He gets along fine with the cat but has not been kid tested. If there are kids in the home, we would prefer that they be older, respectful children since Princeton can be shy. Princeton is also a strong, young dog with lots of energy. He really needs a puppy manners class and someone committed to training and exercising him. There are lots of areas he would excel in, such as FastCAT, scent work and Rally obedience. Princeton is a special boy.

If you think you would be a good family for Princeton and live within a reasonable driving distance of Mechanicsburg, PA, please let us know!  Make sure to have a current application on file and email Melissa (cavalierrescueusapa@gmail.com) and ask to be considered as a family for Princeton (please don’t call or text).

Snickers and Twix in Chesapeake, VA

Meet Snickers and Twix, a bonded senior pair of Blenheim Cavaliers. Snickers is a ten year old female weighing 20 pounds. Twix is an eight year old male who weighs 23 pounds. They are a delightful duo.

Snickers and Twix came to rescue as owner surrenders. Their owners moved into assisted living and could no longer care for them. They were obviously well tended and deeply loved. These two dogs are terrific, although they do have some medical and emotional issues. Both dogs are deaf. They do not respond to their names or handclaps, but seem to understand hand gestures. Both dogs have good appetites.

Snickers is a happy girl whose tail is always wagging. She gets around slowly due to arthritis, but she doesn’t let it stop her from enjoying her life. She just moves slowly. If something is going on with her foster siblings, she wants to be included. She can slowly navigate stairs but won’t jump down from furniture. She has used pets steps on a few occasions. She often will wait for her foster to pick her up and carry her outside. Once there, she manages to take care of business, but needs some time. A fenced yard is a real plus for her.

Snickers is fully housetrained. She alerts by sitting in front of the door or by barking. She is a deep sleeper but a gentle nudge seems to awaken her without startling her. Both dogs would do well in a home without young children.

Twix is a shy boy and very much of an introvert. He does not bark and is a perfect gentleman at all times. He loves the security of his crate. The door is always open and he comes and goes as he pleases. He is slow to warm up to new people, but does so eventually and becomes friendly and more adventurous every day. He will do best in a home where the family is around a lot of the time.

Twix is not anti-social, however. He engages with his foster parents more every day. He loves ear scratches and rubs on his side. He has very soft fur and really enjoys it when you carry him around the house. He loves wandering around the fenced yard and is also good on the leash. He has a grade III heart murmur. He is not on meds for that but will likely need to be down the road.

These two dogs would be a wonderful addition to a home where the family has the patience and tenderness to deal with senior dogs. They are gentle and loving, just slow and with some limitations. If you think you would be a good fit for Snickers and Twix, please complete our online application if you haven’t already done so, and then email Rescue Coordinator Diane Lombardo at  cavalierrescueusamdwv@gmail.com

Marco in University Place, WA

Meet Marco! Marco is an 8-year-old Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is the definition of a devoted companion. This sweet boy was an owner surrender, and it’s clear he was well loved and well cared for with his excellent house manners and a heart full of affection.

Marco absolutely loves the comforts of home. The couch and the bed are his favorite places, especially if they’re shared with his person. He wants nothing more than to be right by your side, whether you’re relaxing on the sofa or settling in for the night. If you’re looking for a true “Velcro Cavalier,” Marco is your guy.

Marco’s love of a bed and his people is best evidenced by his care taken to move and carry his dog bed to be in closest proximity to his foster parents while they work from home. Pulling, nesting, and even grabbing it with his teeth, nothing will stop him from being comfy and near the ones he loves.

He has a good energy level for an 8-year-old and loves his 30+ minute daily walks. He walks nicely on leash, though he will need continued guidance to help him curb barking when other dogs pass by. His foster family is working with him using positive reinforcement training, which he loves since it involves treats. Marco is fully potty trained and will go to the back door to let you know when he needs to go outside.

Because he truly prefers having all the attention, Marco would be happiest as the only dog in the home where he can be the center of your universe. He gets along with the foster family’s Cavaliers but will push his way to the front of the pack for attention. While he tends to have a favorite person, he truly loves everyone. He is outgoing and friendly with strangers and happily absorbs their adoration.

Marco is good with children and previously lived with school-aged kids. In his foster home, he is often found snuggling on the couch or bed with the 9-year-old. He prefers affection on his own terms and is not a fan of being hugged and will gently let you know if he’s uncomfortable; respecting his boundaries helps him feel secure and relaxed. He is used to sleeping in a family member’s bed at night and he would be unhappy if he had to sleep anywhere else.

Marco weighs 21 pounds, which is a good weight for him. He is suspected to be deaf, but he is eager to please and responds to some hand signals. He recently saw the cardiologist and has been diagnosed with a grade II/VI heart murmur. Currently, he doesn’t require any medication, and a recheck examination is recommended with the cardiology service in nine months to monitor for progression.

Marco’s new home wish list: gentle dog-savvy children over 5, daily walks, to sleep in the big bed with his family, minimal time alone, and he’d love to be the only dog receiving all of the attention. If your family is a good match for Marco and you live within a 3-hour drive of his foster home, please complete the online application (if you haven’t previously) and email Melissa at happycavaliers04@gmail.com so she knows to consider your application.
