Meet Baker, a 6-year-old Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a tender heart and a quiet spirit who is just beginning to discover the world around him. Weighing 17 pounds, Baker is a gentle, sensitive boy who is learning, day by day, that life can be safe, loving, and full of comfort. While everything still feels very new and sometimes overwhelming, there is a sweetness in him that shines through more with each passing day.

Baker was surrendered from a breeder who became overwhelmed. Baker is now ready to start his next chapter as a cherished, spoiled family member. Because of his past, he is still adjusting to life in a home. He will need a patient, understanding family committed to going at his pace. He may retreat to his safe space when approached, but he is showing beautiful progress; offering curious sniffs to say hello and slowly building the courage to engage more with people and his surroundings. With time, consistency, and gentle encouragement, Baker has all the potential to blossom into a deeply affectionate companion.

In foster care, Baker has been working hard on learning the basics of home life. He is making steady progress with potty training when kept on a consistent schedule and has begun leash training. He is finding the bravery to go for his first short walks recently! Because he is still learning, a securely fenced yard will be ideal for his continued growth and confidence, with walks mixed in. He has also started learning how to navigate stairs and continues to build new skills at his own pace.

One of the most important things to know about Baker is how much he loves other dogs. He truly thrives with canine companionship and looks to his foster sibling for comfort, guidance, and confidence. For this reason, a home with another friendly, calm, confident dog is a must. His canine companion helps ease his separation anxiety and gives him the reassurance he needs to feel safe. Baker is crate-trained when left home and does best when he has the presence of another dog nearby. He also enjoys chewing on toys and will have little bursts of play throughout the day, happily settling in to relax with one.

Baker is extremely sensitive and is still learning to trust. He would do best in a calm home without young children. Older, respectful children may be okay, but a quieter environment will allow him to continue building confidence without feeling overwhelmed.
Baker stays calm in the car, but he does suffer from motion sickness. He may not be best suited for long car rides and may require some medicine to help alleviate that queasiness. While he is still early in his journey, he is already showing signs of bravery and resilience that make it clear he is trying. That effort is something truly special to witness.

Medically, Baker has a Grade 3 heart murmur and has been diagnosed with Stage B2 Mitral Valve Disease (MVD) following an echocardiogram. He will require lifelong heart medication to help manage this condition and routine monitoring with a cardiologist every 6-12 months. He also has Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), meaning he does not produce his own tears. He will need daily eye drops for life to keep his eyes healthy and comfortable. Baker has some skin allergies and may benefit from ongoing allergy support, such as medication and/or a sensitive skin diet, to help keep him comfortable and minimize itching. While in foster care, he has been fully vetted, including treatment for ear, eye, and skin infections, and he is now neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all core vaccinations.
Baker is looking for a very special home – one filled with patience, compassion, and understanding. He doesn’t need perfection or pressure; he simply needs someone willing to meet him where he is and celebrate the small victories along the way. In return, you’ll have the privilege of watching a shy little dog transform, at his own pace, into the loving companion he was always meant to be.

If you are ready to give Baker the gentle, supportive home he deserves, and ready for the responsibility of his routine medical care, and if you have a canine companion waiting to show him the way, he will reward you with a quiet, meaningful bond that only a dog like him can offer.
